The Pasta Place - Super Cute Homestyle Cafe

I am a big pasta lover! There are so many different kinds of pasta with different sauces and different ways of making them. 85 South - North Carolina BBQ Hits Kau U Fong

Price: $$
Cravingness: ★★★

Barbecue to me is a way to bond with friends and family. No matter it is a Cantonese style of BBQ or the American way, they both serve the same function. 85 South is a new BBQ shop at Kau U Fong who brought the North Carolina taste to Hong Kong. If you walked pass the area and smelled an irresistible aroma, that's definitely from 85 South.

Bellbrook - Rustic & Fun Bistro

Price: $$$
Cravingness: ★★★

The Bellbrook, the name I thought is a title of a book, is actually a new bistro opened by the famous David Laris. Different from its former fine dining restaurant Laris, Bellbrook goes by a casual, a much more lay back bistro style for a fun and chill night with friends and family.

Riedel - My First Glass Pairing Experience!

Did everyone enjoy the 2013 Hong Kong Wine & Dine Festival held between 31st Oct to 3 Nov 2012? I was invited over by Riedel, a main sponsor for the festival to have a glimpse of the event. This year the festival was held at the New Central Harbourfront, the open area right next to Central Pier 9 & 10. The ever changing entrance looked beautiful, like a magical entrance at Disney and could be seen from ifc.

Tapaella Grill - A Spanish Disappointment

Price: $$
Cravingness: ★★☆☆☆

There are cuisines that I would grow sick of, but definitely not Spanish! I went to Tapaella Grill in Kenny Town tonight. Tapaella Grill is a petite Spanish restaurant with simple furnishing and feels like a home run restaurant. I was expecting friendly and warm staff but staff here are quite cold. While I was also thinking a petite Spanish restaurant would not be too popular on Hau Wo Street, the night was actually full house, not to mention it was a rainy night.

Mind Blowing Food at the Quirky Salon 10

Salon Number 10, the funky bar located above Lan Gwai Fong recently launched a dinner service headed by Chef Austin, the former chef of Brickhouse. If you have not been to Salon 10 before, you might have difficulties to locate where it is as the restaurant & bar does not even has a name on its door! Yet you can easily spot Salon Number 10 from its crazily cool entrance.

Hee Kee Crab General - Mediocre Chilli Crab

Price: $$
Cravingness: ★★★☆☆

Although it's the big season for hairy crab, we still miss the tangy Hong Kong Style spicy crab (aka Typhoon Shelter Crab). We bought a deal for a set dinner menu at Hee Kee Crab General in Groupon earlier and decided to go tonight.

I have seen the bright red door front of Hee Kee many times but never once dine there myself. There are numerous branches of Hee Kee in Hong Kong, the one I went to is next to the Goose Bridge Causeway Bay, close to another famous spicy crab place called Under The Bridge Spicy Crab.

LKK - Hong Kong Street Snack Waffle

Price: $
Cravingness: ★★★☆☆

My sister and I were already big fan of LKK, the famous eggettes (Hong Kong Egg Waffle) snack shop at North Point back when we were in secondary school. There are no numerous branches of LKK now in Hong Kong. Although very easily accessible, the quality varies among branches. Today I went to the branch at Wanchai for their condensed milk and peanut butter waffle.

TAPAGRIA - Lively Tapas Restaurant & Bar

Price: $$$
Cravingness: ★★★☆☆1/2

The Spanish fad has been going on for quite a while but the heat never stops. Tapagria, a recently opened tapas bar opened by Hong Kong actress Carina Lau (劉嘉玲) at The One Tsim Sha Tsui is expected to create a scene and takes a great share at the Market. Hungry Korean - For Hungry Chinese

Price: $
Cravingness: ☆☆☆☆☆

When I thought Korean fast food culture WAS a fad in Hong Kong, shops are still opening everywhere! I went to Hungry Korean at Causeway Bay tonight for a quick dinner. I think it is a branch as I have seen one at Tsim Sha Tsui years ago.

Ted's Lookout - Delicious Tacos

Price: $$
Cravingness: ★★★★☆

I had been trying to date friends to Ted's lookout but without success in the past few months. Not until my birthday month hit and I finally got a say in dining option.

The mere reason I wanted to bring my friends to Ted's lookout is because of its fun vibe and most importantly its attractive free corkage since they had not got the alcohol license yet. As I mentioned earlier we finally went for dinner, but we were stupid enough not to check if the free corkage still applies upon reservation. (plus there is no reservation now -_-, my lovely friends..) You could have possibly guess by now, Ted's lookout already got their alcohol license and there is no free corkage anymore! (Sob sob!)

Little Burro - Not as fresh as I expected

Price: $
Cravingness: ★☆☆☆☆

I always joke about franchising Chipotle to Hong Kong. Giving its popularity in the US, I would make lots of money here. I guess the owner of Little Burro had the same thought, but instead of franchising, they opened their own concept store, Little Burro at Causeway Bay. Having a slight difference thought on location though, I would have chose Wanchai or Central. It seems it could generate more lunch/ dinner crowds.

[Macau] Casa de Tapas - My First Tapas Experience

Whenever I go to Macau, I opt for Portuguese because the food is authentic there. This time I went to a new tapas restaurant called Casa de Tapas in Taipa, Macau.

Long awaited my favourite sandwich shop Prêt à Manger finally opened in Kowloon Bay! Finally a place that truly offers fresh and delicious sandwiches, baguettes, wraps, cakes, hot soup, bakery items etc. I no longer have to suffer from the horrible food from the local sandwich shops or the mediocre salads at Groves. [Snack] Quest Bar - The Protein Bar

How do you like energy bars in Hong Kong? I love/ hate them. most of the bars in Hong Kong are more like cereal bars or fruit bars which all have high sugar and carbs content. They does not really help if you are looking for a lean snack.

Recently, OOSupplies sent me two energy bars from Quest Bar for tasting. Quest Bar is different from many other energy bars in Hong Kong as they are high in protein and low in active carbs, what's more it is gluten free!

Trattoria Doppio Zero - Great Pasta Always

Price: $$
Cravingness: ★★★★☆

If you ask me where can you find good pasta, Trattoria Doppio Zero is definitely on the list. Trattoria in Italian means an dining environment less formal than restaurant, more causal service, no printed menus, wine is usually sold by decanter rather bottle etc. I would not consider Trattoria Doppio Zero trattoria but an Italian restaurant with a modern setup with romantic and sociable ambience.

Trattoria Doppio Zero makes their own pasta with doppio zero flour, the finest Italian flour. What I appreciate most is that they always make their pasta al dente. I brought Henry over tonight so he could try the lovely pasta out (secretly because I want pasta myself! :) )

Gonpachi - Premium Handmade Soba & Sumiyaki Binchotan Grill

An izakaya that can represent Japan signifies Gonpachi's stand in the industry..

Sun King Yuen Curry Restaurant - Wanna drink some cooking oil?

Price: $
Cravingness: ★★★☆☆

Lunch at Sun King Yuen Curry, Wanchai today after my doctor appointment. Sun King Yuen is famous for their signature Curry Pork Chop Rice and Stir Fried Beef Flat Noodles.

Lunch hours are mad crazy here at Sun King Yuen Curry. Since there is no system for dine in waiting or for take away orders, everyone just stands and blocks the front door in case the reception lady forgets them. To be totally honest, I truly admire the lady's strong memory although I hate how the system works in here. In the end, she did remember me and I got sit pretty soon.

Cravingness: ★★★★☆

A really late entry on Lab Mad's Mid Autumn's liquid nitrogen ice-cream flavour, just a recap on the nice HK Custard Bun flavoured that I have tried. I did not try the mooncake one as I already have had too many mooncakes.

HK Custard Bun (流沙奶黃包)

The Steak House Wine Bar + Grill - The Steak King?

Price: $$$$$
Cravingness: ★★★☆☆

Whenever we talk about the best steakhouse in Hong Kong, the Steakhouse Wine Bar + Grill at Intercontinental is always mentioned. Being crowned the Steak King, I finally got the chance to try the steak house since HSBC Premier Visa Card is offering a 20% discount on every al la carte items which is an amazing deal that cannot be missed!

The steakhouse has a similar settings and ambience to any other good steakhouse in Hong Kong - it is spacious, grand but causal at the same time. The very attribute that makes the Steak House stands out is their charcoal grill, which is the one and only charcoal grill in Hong Kong. Despite that they are also known for the topnotch services and the eclectic selection of knives, steaks and condiments! I will explain more in below.

Yorkshire Pudding - The introduction of Premium English Beef

Cravingness: ★★★☆☆

I once hated roasted beef and Yorkshire pudding. When I was still studying in UK, my school canteen serves roasted beef and Yorkshire pudding every Sunday (as we called it Sunday Roast.) Now that I have moved back to Hong Kong for long, I missed the Sunday Roast. When I got the invitation to the luncheon launch of English Beef from EBLEX at Yorkshire Pudding, I was very excited.

清真笑爺 - Halal Mooncake Launching Soon!

There might have lots of mooncake brands in Hong Kong, but none offers Halal certified mooncake. There is one Halal pastry shop, namely 清真笑爺 (Lets call it Halal Shaoye for now as they do not have English name yet), opening soon in Wanchai to cater Muslim's crave for mooncakes but can't due to the use of lard, or without any prayer to Allah before slaughtering.

Halal Shaoye is founded by a wholehearted Muslim. The store is still at its preparation stage, waiting to be opened in Wanchai. I will share more details on this page once the store is opened. To offer authentic and certifies Halal food, Halal Shaoye obtains a certificate issued from the Incorporated Trustees of the Islamic Community Fund of Hong Kong to guarantee quality and properly treated Halal food.

[Macau] Popular Street Snacks - Waffles and Banana Cake

Price: $
Cravingness: ★★★☆☆

We found a eggette street cart (called 龍眼圍雞蛋仔 in Chinese) when we were on our way to Ruins of St. Paul when we smelled a mouth drooling aroma from Patio das Flores Alley. Although the cart is not visible at all in the dark, the aroma seduces customers to walk into the street to savour their pancakes. This street cart is said to be pretty famous in selling Macau popular street snack - egg waffles/ eggettes, waffles and banana cakes, each selling at MOP9, which is not too bad of a deal.

[Macau] Lord Stow's Bakery's Phenomenon Portuguese Egg Tart

Price: $
Cravingness: ★★★★☆

I have been to Macau for multiple times, but last Saturday was my first visit to the most popular Portuguese Egg Tart shop in town, the renowned Lord Stow's Bakery. The reason is because of its relative inconvenient location in Macau at the Coloane Town Square. Recently I was told there are in total 3 branches of Lord Stow's in Macau now with the latest branch at the Venetians. The popularity had spread through the water to other Asia countries, namely South Korea, Japan, Philippines and not that I know, Hong Kong! FYI, Lord Stow's egg tart are under exclusive license to EXpresso at the Excelsior Hong Kong at Causeway Bay.

Gu Fah Bakery - Indigenous Delights

Price: $
Cravingness: ★★☆☆☆

When we are looking for Phoenix Rolls, we would usually think of big commercial brands like Kee Wah Bakery in Hong Kong or Macau brands like Choi Heong Yuen or Koi Kei. Despite some local petite shops at places like Lee Yuen Moon, there is also another local brand called Gu Fah Bakery. Gu Fah bakery offers a great range of Chinese Bakery that are made in Hong Kong which are perfect for gifts or as souvenir to family and friends.

Openrice Event - Fruity Moon Cake Tasting

As some of you might notice I stopped blogging for a while and picked back up in March this year. Since I have not been active in blogging for the past two years, I was actually surprised but elated to be invited to Openrice's Moon cake tasting event. Two years ago around the same time, I had the same invitation from Openrice for a mooncake tasting on some fun twisting flavoured mooncakes .(If you are interested, here is the link for the previous post -> Openrice Mooncakes Tasting Event | 新口味試食報告) This year, we are going to savour several fruity mooncakes offered by different brands.

This year the tasting was more interesting as we were put into test to guess what the fruit components of the mooncake are. It was not a crazy challenge, we almost guessed all the moon cakes right. The tasting was hosted at Teavers, a cafe specialised in tea making at Shau Kei Wan. Teavers arranged some tea pairing for the mooncakes, which was great to kill the mooncake's oiliness.

Xiao Tian Gu - Still A Great Dessert Choice

Price: $
Cravingness: ★★★★☆

A random crave for dessert made us go to Xiao Tian Gu tonight. The dessert shop was quite packed, showing its popularity at Tai Hang.

Hokkaido Stewed Milk

This cute white porcelain cup holds Xiao Tian Gu's signature dish - Hokkaido Stewed Milk. The warm Hokkaido Stewed Milk was smooth with sweet Hokkaido milk taste.
