Beef & Liberty - Retry & Congrats for 2015 Bib Gourmand

Price: $$
Cravingness: ★★★☆☆1/2

First of all, a big congratulation to Beef and Liberty for being listed as the one and only Bib Gourmand burger restaurant on Michelin Guide Hong Kong and Macau 2015. If you read my previous preview on Beef & Liberty, I was upset about my burger being dry. I came back to Beef & Liberty under invitation as I was told Chef Neil Tomes improves his burgers' recipe from time to time. I wonder if my first was a bad time for Beef & Liberty, so I have to come back again.

The day of my visit was a Sunday where Beef & Liberty was packed as usual, a slight wait was expected even with a table reservation. You would have thought the queue will dismiss after 2pm but the queue was still forming at 2.30pm the day I went, proving Beef and Liberty is beloved and popular.

On 'today's special' chalkboard, we found The Curly Pig and The Special along a list of interesting beer choices. We ordered the Special since it sounds quite interesting.

I ordered chocolate milkshake - HKD68 which was a sweet, milky and icy milkshake that will give you a brain freeze. It was however not as thick as I imagined.

The Spicy Chicken Wing - HKD78 tasted very much like the Korean Spicy Fried Chicken with a crisp skin which I love! It was however a bit pricey for only 4 wings...(sob sob)

When we order The Special - HKD188, the waiter recommended us to share the burger and not to order a second as the Special's patty weights 250g. Hmm thanks for the suggestion, but we will each have a burger by ourselves please.

The Special is composed of solely Grass fed NZ wagyu beef burger. Unlike burger with butter lettuce and tomato, every bite on the Special was meaty with bold beef flavour.

The Wagyu patty was utterly juicy, tender and flavourful, totally lived up its name. It was cooked right with a pinkish center. The Wagyu patty was however a bit loosely made that the patty fell apart easily. I don't like patty that loose but this is a delicious burger taste wise.

Since there was no lunch combo during the weekend, we ordered sweet potato fries and onion rings separately. The Sweet Potato Fries - HKD32 is one of my favourite at Beef & Liberty. This is one scrumptious that you can't stop indulging. The Onion Rings was fluffy and crisp but was rather bland in taste.

I love lamb so I have to try the Welsh Lamb burger - HKD108 again. Turned out the burger was great this time! The patty was finally juicy and retained the flavourfulness plus an additional of cumin and herbiness in it. With the mint yogurt sauce, the burger tasted very much like kebab lamb which you can easily imagine how flavourful that is!

Unfortunately we do not have room for dessert (again!) since we totally downed the two huge burger! I am glad I came back to Beef & Liberty to try their burgers, thank you very much to Coco and Queenie for the arrangement. I also had a little chat with Chef Neil Tomes and am impressed how he continuously improves and changes the recipe of his burgers according to seasons and the quality at source. The passionate team together with their will to serve great quality burgers do definitely earn them the Bib Gourmand Status!

Lastly a happy photo of us and Chef Neil Tomes.
