SML?

My first encounter with the name SML was when I saw the pink robot outside the restaurant, but knew nothing about what the name meant. Small, Medium, Large, in short SML represents the three portion sizes that are available in every dish they offer. Seemingly a very hip and conceptual restaurant. It stresses on the idea of Democracy which every type of eaters are equal, has the rights to be themselves and to make their own choices.

Craft Steak | Juicy Nice Steaks

Super Monday again! I love Mondays as I could always enjoy more food with less price. Today, we brought my parents along with me to Craft Steak in Soho, which I reckoned is a very decent steakhouse.

There are two dinning sessions in Craft Steak, one from 6.30 - 8.15, another from 8.45 - closed. So we made our reservation at 8.45. When we arrived to the restaurant, the waiter said they do not have any reservation record from us. At that moment, all empty table had already had a reserve card on them, we were afraid that we might have to disappoint my parents especially we had the dinner that late at night. Fortunately, after waited for about ten minutes, the waiter somehow got us a table to settle in.

Cova | Cakes & Coffee

After an early lunch, my friend and I wanted to grab a drink and so we went to Cova. The Cova in Wtc was significantly smaller than the Cova in Lee garden, there was only 7 tables in the store if I could remember clearly. We didn't go to Lee Garden's because it was raining heavily yesterday night.

We ordered a two people cake set at $198. The set included one gelato, two pieces of cake and two drinks. The gelato flavours was preset to flavour of the day, and we had Hazelnuts for the night. For cakes, you could select any two flavours you like from the cake fridge. For drinks, we have regular coffee and Irish coffee.

Froyo Race Stop 8 ♥ Milky Cow

Milky Cow is located in such an inconvenient spot that I thought I would never be able to come. I once said 'who will go to midlevel just to try a froyo?', and went upset about won't be able to include milky cow in my froyo race. Well, fortune came and this day I went pass Milky Cow after visiting my friend's restaurant in midlevels!

Milky Cow was owned by a foreigner who lived somewhere nearby. As I went into the store, the owner greeted and chat with us casually, which made me feel like home. The side wall of the store was a mirror which made the store seemingly a lot more spaceous than most of the other froyo stores in Hong Kong, yet the number of seatings were similar. There were a lot of toppings to choose from, from fresh fruits, to chocolate, granola and cereals. From the picture you can see there were a lot of colourful ingredients, which would give the kids a hard choice for sure.

FROYO RACE STOP 7 ♥ Berrygood

Finally, I visited Berrygood! Having talked about it for months, hearing recommendations from friends, I finally tried Berrygood out before I had my dinner in Soho. The location was not in so somewhere convenient, we had to download a map to search for the store. It was on the street opposite to GOD. Since the store was in pink and white, it was not hard to spot its location on the dark street.

Kraze Burger | American or Korean?

Price: $
Cravingness: ★★★☆☆1/2

We passed by Kraze Burger lots of time in iSquare, but didn't have a chance to try it until today. Kraze burger is a Korean Fast food restaurant which provides Burgers, Sandwiches and Fries. Kraze Burger stresses on freshness and claimed to provide healthy burgers. Every menu on kraze was made to order to ensure freshness. They only use whole chucks from US premium catte to make their patties and would also baked their own bread and cook their own sauce.

Kraze Burger is extremely spaceous, the area is huge to the point that I wonder whether it could ever get filled up. The outlook of Kraze gives an impression of American fast food restaurant. It also has a pop art styled menu, which reminds me of those American comics. However if you checked the instore Tv screen out, you could see Korean Music MTVs on shown 24/7. So, is Kraze trying to position itself as Korean Style Fast Food Restaurant or American Style Fast Food Restaurant?

Froyo Race Stop 6 ♥ Holy Cow

I believe this should be the newest froyo store in Hong Kong at the moment. I passed by the store when I was on my way to Burgeroom. I would say its location is rather awkward, 'coz there shouldn't be a lot of people passing by Irving Street.Yet it should get lots of free advertising as many buses usually drive by.

This froyo store was in white and purple tone. Together with its cow logo, it kind of gave me a Yomama-wanna-be impression. Within the store, there was only three stools and a table, so do not expect there would be space to sit in and have your froyo after the shop became well-known. Despite froyo, the store also provides cakes, cookies and smoothes.

Crazy at BR, Serenity at Cafe Tornado

I woke up pretty late this afternoon around 2pm, I felt extremely hungry and wanted a big late lunch. My parent wanted burger, so we headed to Burgeroom for lunch.

BR - When we arrived BR, the place was full and packed with people waiting for seating. We thought we could wait at any table we wanted, but then a waiter came over, asked how many people we had, told us we have to wait a bit then left us standing there. We felt extremely lost as we didn't know whether there was a queuing system or not. We waited a bit and left as most people just started their meals and there were several groups before us waiting. BR, may be its time to improve a bit?

Anyway we decided to check the restaurants nearby. We went passed this decent looking cafe shop and decided to give it a try. The cafe decor was really nice and cosy. There were bookshelfs holding real books and magazines for customers and little decorations along the wall of the open kitchen. The environment was relaxing and comfortable.

The menu book was exquisite too. The menu and drink list were attached in the menu book just like those photo album. Every single book was handmade and thus looked special. As this is a cafe, they provided a wide range of drinks to chose from, yet the food choices were limited. Anyway, the decision was not that hard to make. (Note: the waitress who served us speaks English, I dunno if she could understand canton or not.)

Tsuen Kee | Salty Beef Brisket Noodles

Talking about Beef Brisket Noodles in Wan Chai, I would usually think of Tsuen Kee, as this was the place where I was brought up with. Today I had this sudden crave for Beef brisket so I went to have lunch in Tsuen Kee.

Luckily there were seats available, so I do not need to wait for a seating. There was indoor and outdoor seatings, which under this hell temperature, there was no way I am sitting out. The indoor decor was simple with white tiles, wooden tables and stools. There wasn't any AC but there were several fans around each of every corner of the restaurant. Guess what, I was sitting at one of the corners, under the fan and sweat to death during my lunch! Try to grab a nicer seat if you are planning to visit.

Chairman Cheung | The Recent Gourmet Fad

The recent gourmet fad seemed to lay on a brand new little store called Chairman Cheung Taiwanese Beef Noodles Restaurant, located in one of the most hectic area in Causeway Bay. Influenced by its fame, I went to try it out right after watching the musical the Octave. Having heard of the crazy queue in front of the store, 6.30pm seemed to be the perfect time for a no-queue dinning. We were lucky that we got our seating once we arrived the restaurant, it was nearly full at that time already.

The restaurant was actually way smaller than I expected. You could literally make a full view of the restaurant in one glance. The decor was simple and dominated in yellow colour. The restaurant were extremely squash, the tables and seating were set parallel to each other. You have to squeeze between table to get to the sofa seating, not to mention you would be real close to the customers next to you, you could literally laugh at their funny conversion at some point. So privacy was not guaranteed.

Dried Beef Noodles with Wonton

The Big Apple In HK

The reason I visited The Big Apple was because I lost my patient in waiting for a seating in the Laksa Restaurant on the opposite side of the very same street. I did not want to visit the restaurant at first because its name 'Big Apple' and its green store front decor suggested healthy which I wasn't feeling healthy at that moment. Anyway there were five of us, which was very difficult to find a seating in Jaffe Road whereas The Big Apple was among the few restaurants that you could not see a queue outside the restaurant. So there wasn't many choice, let's try it out!

Originally I thought The Big Apple was all about sandwiches, but later the waitress brought us a lunch menu and there were pastas and curry etc. $48 for a lunch set with a main dish and the soup of the day was pretty much in a nice price range you could usually find in Wan Chai.

Japan Souvenir - Green Tea Mochi

After a month of my Japan trip, I still have at least two drawers of snack and a few souvenir foods left to consume lol. But why had this Mochi today? The reason I left this Mochi tasted at that moment was because it had to be consumed within two days after opening, which is rather impossible having me eating it alone. Well, there were three visitors at my place yesterday, so I figured it was a good chance to have it.

In the box, there were a yellowish brown powder and a square plastic box of 16 mochi. I put the powder in a bowl for easy dipping, as I thought sprinkling the powder directly to the plastic container was stupid.

The mochi had a sticky hand feel and could only be picked up by fork. (I tried spoon and failed lol.) The texture was very lovable. It was glutinous and extremely chewy. The stuffings tasted like red bean paste, the green tea flavour wa not that strong at all.

The glutinous texture and the filling paste were very moreish, which I could not stop eating one after another. In the end, I nearly had the whole box myself.

All You Can Eat | Izakaya Daikichi

My friend is heading back to the US tomorrow, so we kinda had a farewell dinner with her tonight. She wanted to have Japanese food, so we went for a "all you can drink" sake buffet. We went to Wellington Street and realised there were several Japanese Buffer restaurants nearby. We sticked to our original choice and went up the building next to Mannings.

The restaurant were full when we arrived so we waited outside at the lobby. There were lots of Polaroid sticking everywhere on the walls. Most of the polaroid had the phrase 'Happy Birthday' written on them. May be all birthday person can have a free snap there? There are two time slots available for dinner buffet, 6-830pm & 845-11pm at a price of $175 from Monday to Saturday and $155 during Sunday or public holiday.(Which was rather ridiculous having public holidays cheaper than normal working days).

Oliver's Super Oh No Baked Potato

My lunch was at Oliver’s Super Sandwiches today which I tried their baked Potatoes out. The photos on their menu were appealing, so I had a difficult time in making my choice. Oliver’s also offers a choice called Double Jollies, which you can choose two of your favourite toppings among the first eight flavours. The caption ‘Choice of Toppings includes E1-E8’ was real small that I literally missed it, made an invalid combination of choice and had to make another combination of choice when I was at the cashier.

The Simpsons McMunches Biscuits

This huge pack of Simpsons cookies were a souvenir gift from the Jumping Gym USA. (To be honest, I never known its English name if I were not writing this post) We used only 330 tickets in exchange for this huge pack of cookies, which was a good bargain course a pack of stupid gums costs you around 150 tickets already!

The huge pack came with 10 individual small packages, this definitely put on more value lol. There was also a magnet included within the pack. It was nearly the size of a credit card. My card was little Simpsons in his devil outfit with a banner saying ‘Bad Boy’ on it.

The biscuits were all shaped with different characters face, which was very cute. They are typical butter biscuit, so nothing really special about them. They were those biscuit that you could literally tell the taste by looking at them.

豪華咖啡茶廳

My colleagues brought me to have Hong Kong version All Day Breakfast this afternoon. I got a bit excited and curious about what they meant by HK version ADB, so I packed my stuffs and left office immediately. The restaurant was a bit distant from our office, but luckily we did not need to wait for seating.

Luxury Coffee Chaa Chan Ten was a very old fashioned Chaa Chan Ten, simple circular wooden table and circular stool. No fancy menu, just simple black words on yellow background paper which got laminated. A stainless steel bucket containing dozens of orange plastic chopsticks. Order receipt was just the roughest grey paper with quality even worse than toilet paper, while cashier was just a simple table with a drawer to deposit the money. Food choices were limited, ranged from different kinds of noodles to different kinds of toast or bread. Although it did not have the furnishing and diversions of food choices as of what Tsui Wah can offers, this is what we love about old fashioned Chaa Chan Ten.

Toasted Corn Beef Egg Toast

KFC | Lime Chilli Chicken

Kentury New Fried Chicken - Lime Chilli Chicken

My colleages and I decided to dine in KFC under the sudden pour of rain during lunch. We tried the new $99 Lime Chilli bucket set for three. Since four of us were girls, the three people portion should be enough for us,

The bucket set came with six pieces of chicken, which three of them are lime chilli chicken and others were of original receipe. Changing normal flavour to lime chilli cost an extra $1.50. The bucket set also included three Mashed potatoes, two Mushroom Rices, one Chicken A La King rice, a box of Chilli Hot Spots, a basket of Crisscut Fries and three soft drinks.

Kit Kat Framboise | Raspberry Cheese Cake

This is a special Kit Kat Flavour I bought in Hong Kong's 7-11 convenient store. I was attracted by the pink nice packaging and the cut raspberry cheesecake icon on the bottom right.

The Kit Kat was in Framboise flavour. Framboise is a Belgian lambic beer that is fermented using raspberries. Upon tearing the wrapper, you could immediately smell a flow of rich raspberry aroma. The wafer bar had a strong taste of raspberry taste, pretty rich which feels like having a cheesecake and also with a taste of fruity wine on it.

It was a scrumptious flavour but it is now all sold out in the market. :( I hope they could have it as a regular flavour in market.

Sakura Street | Might Not Be Doraemon's Favourite

I had two movie preview tickets of Predators for free, so I went to Kornhill Plaza straight after work. I felt really hungry, so I went to Sakura Street (櫻みち) to buy a dorayaki(銅鑼焼) as light snack before dinner. They were doing a special promotion on dorayaki, selling at $10 for a chosen flavour. Strawberry and Cream was the promotion item of the night.

Tokyo Chocolate

This chocolate cake is another souvenir I bought from Japan. I bought the box because its name contained the word 'Tokyo', which seemingly can represent the place where I'd just been.

The chocolate cake had a layer of soft solid chocolate in between the 2 layers of cake. The texture of the cake was rich, thick and moist. The outer cake layer was softer than the inner chocolate, so it gave you a combination of mouth feel, soft rich cake and soft solid chocolate. The soft chocolate had a familiar taste, something like the taste of lemon's sourness but without the real sour taste. The cake itself was not very sweet, taste something similar to 70% cocoa chocolate's sweetness maybe.

Morinaga - Lemon chocolate rice crisps

Cravingness: ★★★★☆

This pack of snack could be bought in any convenient store in Tokyo Japan. However the lemon flavour is a special edition, so grab one when there is stock available.

The snack is actually white lemon chocolate topping with a crispy rice crisps in the middle. The size was about right, big enough for you to have the mouth feel. It doesn't have the sticky texture like some cereal bars do, which is nice.

Each individual piece of the snack had a nice lemon aroma, it also had a strong lemon taste. Although tasting lemon, the snack was sweet without a single bit of sourness. The combining taste was refreshing.

Twix Chocolate Bar

Cravingness: ★★★★★

I asked my best friend to get me some special snacks from UK, and she got me this Twix chocolate bar......The only difference thing I could tell is that the UK one has got a slightly different packaging from the HK ones(like the HK ones have chinese on them? lol).

Berne - Millefeuilles Summer

This Millefueilles Summer was a box of chocolate wafers I bought from Japan. Initially I was not interested in this product, until I spot the word 'limited edition' on the box, I stopped and picked a box to the cashier.

The wrapper design is smart. It was made with some special kind of paper which was extremely easy to peel off. It was also a convenient design, you can peel the paper wrapper as you munched down the bar so it won't dirt your hand.

Orange Sweet Chocolate

To be honest, I was not a big fan of orange chocolate, but this was quite nice. The chocolate wafer coating was orange flavoured and was mildly sweet. Wrapper in between the coating, was layers of wafer biscuits and cream. The wafers were thin, flat and crispy. The cream was smooth and silky, it also contained an orange taste. The combining taste was good.

Pineapple Milk Chocolate (Special Edition)

This is one of the special edition and is only available in summer. Since Pineapple is one of my favourite fruit, so this flavour was actually my reason purchasing this box. This wafer bar texture was the same and the taste was altered a bit. The chocolate coating was milk chocolate and there were bits of dried pineapple fruit spread along the wafer bar. I love this chocolate wafer more, it is scrumptious and love munching it!

Coconut High Milk Chocolate (Special edition)

This is the other special summer edition of the series. To be honest, I hate any confectionaries with coconut flavour, I just think they don't pair with each other. However this coconut high milk chocolate wafer bar was scrumptious! It  had a coconut milk tasted, the coconut flavour was light. The milk chocolate coating was the best of the three. The wafers were as usual crispy and went very nice with the cream. Love it!

Tokyo Banana - BLACK Banana Custard Cake

Cravingness: ★★★★★

After tasting the yummy original flavour of Tokyo Banana, I asked my sister to bring me back some more in Japan since her trip was just right after me.

The Black version turned out to be as nice as the Original Version. The new taste did not taste much difference from the original one, just the sponge cake was replaced by chocolate cake. The chocolate cake was as typical soft and spongy. The chocolate flavour was rich, and was mildly sweet. It contained a strong nice chocolate aroma. Yet the bottom of the cake was a bit softer when compared to the whole cake, may be the custard made it softer?

On the other hand, the banana flavoured custard was still very silky smooth, thick and rich. Yuuummmmm, I simply love Tokyo Banana.

Black Version of the Tokyo Banana Custard Cake.

The box came with 8 banana Custard Cake.
