Leaving earlier than normal from work today, I decided to treat myself with a nice cup of coffee and a piece of cake. I read a local magazine writing about a limited cake lollipop offering at Starbucks that I really wanted to try. However it was nowhere to be found in the starbucks near my office. :( I didn't ask but it was already six-ish so I guessed it was sold out.
Anyway I ordered the limited Cocoa Cappuccino that I had been wanting to try for long. I wasn't a big fan of Moccha since I dislike sweetness in coffee or tea. So I kinda wonder how this Cocca Cappuccino would taste like.
While standing in front of the display window, feeling disappointed that the cake lollipop was sold out. I actually did instantly switch my attention to this sparkling piece of chocolate dome cake at the very right corner of the window display. I checked the name tag which says '40th Anniversary Dome Chocolate Cake'. Since it was that special, I decided to give it a try immediately.
1) Cocoa Cappuccino
At first I thought the drink was Mocha Cappuccino. I am a big coffee fan but am no expert at it. I admit I should do some background research before writing reviews on coffee, but I thought simply adding cocoa powder on the espresso results in Mocha...?
Anyway, this Cocoa Cappuccino had a lovely chocolate scent which saturated around me when I was taking the coffee back to my seat. The coffee looked nicer with the chocolate syrup on top. The milk foam was made very creamy and thick. The milk form together with the dark chocolate syrup gave a very nice full mouth feel and a tiny pint of bitter sweetness. I had always love cappuccino since I love the silky smoothness of the milk foam. One good thing about the dark chocolate syrup was that it wouldn't sweeten the coffee too much. This mocha cappuccino was a chill after-work drink, just like the after-work beer to men lol.
2) 40th Anniversary Chocolate Dome Cake
The Chocolate Dome cake was beautiful to the eyes. The golden sparkles along the thin layer of chocolate sparkled in front of my eyes. Underneath the chocolate layer was a layer of coffee mousse, followed by a layer of sponge cake, wrapped around a center core which was made up of heaps of rice crisps, coconut custard and orange jam.
To be honest, the overall taste was weird, it was a combination of strong coconut taste and a super sour orange taste. The orange jam tasted a bit like apricot jam. The taste of the coffee mousse and the chocolate layer was totally covered by those weird taste. The weirdest thing was that there was no other chocolate element in the cake despite the outer chocolate layer. I thought I had misread an extra 'Chocolate' on the tag, but later when I double check, I did see the word 'Chocolate' there.
I didn't finish the cake, I polished half of that and already felt extremely full! When I had my next sip of Cocoa cappuccino, it suddenly turned extremely sweet. I guess my taste bud was ruined by the dome cake!?
