Wildgrass is a casual country-style restaurant that offers organic nose-to-tail eating at Arbuthnot Road, Central. Wildgrass stresses on natural, sustainable ingredients cooked with traditional slow cooking method and nose-to-tail eating to embrace food with no wastage. They serve OBE beef from free roaming, grass fed cattle in Australia Outback which gives more favourable meat. Wildgrass' Sunday Semi-buffet brunch is a good time to try their dishes in one go.
Being located at Arbuthnot Road, Wildgrass could be quite a hassle to find. Once you found its entrance, you will fall in love with their spanish style floor tiles piling up the stairs. On top of the beautiful stairs lies a huge open dining area. If you look closely you will find the furnitures aren't exactly matching, but Wildgrass purposely did that as to create a rustic French cottage look. Contrasting with the white walls with small square window frame, I found Wildgrass a lovely place to dine in.
If you are into arts, Wildgrass constantly has several paintings adorning their walls which changes from time to time. Ask for more details if you are interested.
Remember to check their chalkboard to see what is today's special.
The semi-buffet brunch menu works differently from most of the restaurants in Hong Kong by offering one starter but unlimited mains at the Carvery Station. All starters' sounds too amazing to miss which gave me a hard time choosing.
The complimentary house bread was amazing. the brown sourdough was delish with a dry rustic taste. The white sourdough was crispy on the edge but rather dry in texture. The spread was a mix of goat cheese with rosemary which was very lovely to go with the sourdough.
I had the Huevo Rancheros as my starter which was absolutely delicious and was my favourite at the brunch. The two eggs were perfectly cooked with oozing yolk and runny white with toasted rim! The meat sauce and chorizo was savoury to give the rancheros an addicting taste. We cleared the plate fast and scooped off any remaining with the house bread.
I also tried the Marinated Pork Shrimps with Steamed Potato Salad served with lime juice and zests. The salad is crisp and fresh but the flavourful wasn't particularly mind blowing.
After our starters, we went to the buffet area to check out our mains. The carving station was impressive with food warming lamp shining over drooling looking meat. Gravies and other sauces were put besides the carving station at diner's ease.
On the other side of the buffet area lies stream fish, cooked vegetables, pasta and Yorkshire pudding.
The first thing I picked was definitely the Slow Roasted Organic Australian Beef where I paired with gravy, Yorkshire pudding and a side of roasted rosemary paired with Horseradish Sauce. The roasted beef was perfectly cooked with pinkish center, very flavourful but rather lean. The gravy was rich and delicious. Yorkshire Pudding was alright, pretty soft with airy inner. I love the buttery and herby potato which I got a few rounds of them.
Next I tried the Roasted Organic Chicken with Rosemary & Garlic as the table feedback was very positive. The roasted chicken was indeed the best meat for the afternoon. It was juicy and tender with a lovely rosemary flavour.
Next I had Sea Salt & Garlic Roasted New Zealand Lamb Leg which was tender and flavourful, but not particularly amazing. On the same plate, I also tried the Whole Crispy Roasted Pork Leg which was very meaty and flavourful, but the skin was a tad too hard to chew.
We were each served a dessert platter with 4 pastries after the main. The Hazelnut Ice-cream with bread crumbs was my favourite on the board. The Chocolate Mousse was rich, creamy but too sweet for my liking. The Strawberry Cheese Cake was quite delightful. It was mildly cheesy with a sugar coated base and topped with strawberry sauce. The Passion fruit cream cake was a light sponge cake layered with lots of yummy cream.

The food at Wildgrass is very hearty and the meat quality is, by no doubt excellent. The brunch is a great bargain as you can try most of the popular dishes at Wildgrass.
