Towards the mid February, I had two coupons expiring that took me out of my working area for lunch. I had seen People's Recreation Cafe across the street of Times Square no less than hundred times but never really got interested in it. Yet the one I was going to dine in was actually the branch in Lockhart Road. As expected, PRC is one hip cafe restaurant with decent decor. There was indoor and outdoor seatings while most smokers gathered at the outdoor terrace, dinning and smoking at the same time. The theme colour was brownish red in dark shade, so was the lighting there.
Starters - Veggie Soup
The veggie soup was not those typical veggie soup you found in local HK restaurants. I had to admit I was rather surprise by the nice soup container and the appealing orangy yellow creamy soup with several light creme on top.
There wasn't much veggie in the soup, just several chopped bits. I believe most of the veggie had boiled until meshy, and then stirred to give a smooth texture. Taste-wise, it had a strong taste of veggie and a light taste of pepper. It was quite sour though.
Lamb and spaghetti with pepper sauce
I wasn't aware that the lamb was served with pepper sauce, and was disappointed by that, I just think pepper sauce is very local . On top of that, the lambs and the spaghetti was served separately on different plates. Of course the lambs were pre-made and they just made the spaghetti to order, yet I reckon it didn't have to be that obvious.
The pepper sauce was very spicy in an unfavorable way, it was too peppery. The spaghetti was very dry itself, so I had to pour lots of pepper sauce on it. Nonetheless the lamb was actually very nice, soft and tender. The dish was in a generous amount, I was full to the max by finishing 70% of the dish.
Ice-tea
There was nothing special about this Ice Tea except it was filled with ice from top to bottom, literally touching it. Very disappointing indeed.
The service was generally nice but the efficiency was low. The food took too long to prepare even they are set lunches. Three customers were mad at the low efficiency and wanted to leave without eating. Just one interesting thing I noticed that most people dining the day were using the exact coupon that I had. I guess most people use their coupon at the very last minute like I do lol.
