Date of Dinning: 30 March 2011
My coupon from Bee Crazy is expiring at the end of this month, so I decided to use it today if not I am gonna waste it. I thought Burger would be my great get away, since I have been eating healthy for a while without my best friend - fatty food. However the dinning experience wasn't particularly nice, and you could see it why from below. :(
I was thinking about not calling for a reservation, but fortunately I did as there was around 4 groups of 2-3 people waiting outside the restaurant. It was difficult to locate Absolute Burger as firstly it was in the basement and secondly, there was no clear signs signaling the restaurant at all. I search the restaurant up online and I immediately figured it was just next to Mist - where I dine yesterday!
Absolute Burger should be a pub restaurant as there was a large darts area with 3 dart machines, there was also happy hour going on hen we arrived! The beer was quite a bargain.. The restaurant was spacious but it wasn't filled up with tables, so the queue for a table should be long. I feel sorry for the people waiting outside the restaurant. Well, living in HK, you have to bear in mind that there is a culture of queuing here so you need to make a reservation for everything, JIC.
The restaurant working efficiency was low, there was only one person serving 6 tables at a time, not to mention she was also the one who lead the seats and keep the customers queuing at the front door. I spent quite some effort to ask for a menu, but she refused and the reason was because I am using the coupon! Not until I told her my other friends are coming which would order normal meal, she wouldn't pass me the menu!
For my coupon, the set included a burger of fish or chicken but you can add $15 for an upgrade to beef or lamb. I asked for an upgrade to the beef, but the waitress said the beef was sold out. I was shocked to the max to hear that! Are you joking? A burger restaurant had all their beef patties sold out? Later I figured the beef patty only sold out for the coupon users but was still available for the normal menu as my friends ordered classic BLT burger in the end. Nonetheless, I ordered the lamb burger. Another disappointing fact about the coupon is that you couldn't add toppings onto your burger. ( But I asked my friend to top my favourite fried egg on his normal classic so I can put it on my burger.)
1) Mushroom Poutine
The pathetic looking dish was a complimentary dish for purchasing two coupons in a row. The mushroom poutine wasn't too appetizing, but the taste was good. The mushroom was chewy and soft and flavourable with the gravy sauce.
2) The Classic Burger Combo
I started to hold high expectation on the burger once I saw the burger bun from other customer's dish. It looked exactly like my favourite sponge burger bun from Harlan's - Foamy, soft and Spongy! It literally took quite a while before my burger was served, but waiting is worthwhile when there is good stuff coming!
I felt contented already just by looking at my lovely burger bun. And guess what! The waitress said the chef mistakenly made me beef burger! Huh, so when was beef patty sold out again? Anyway back to the burger.
Burger Bun - Out of my expectation, the burger bun was extremely crispy, so it literally crumbled when I pressed down the burger. There was a slight disappointment as I was expecting a Harlan's version of bun. However, I have to admit this bun was also splendid. The sesame bun had a very strong butter taste, it was so strong it could still stand out vividly among the mayo, the beef patty and all other heavy tastes. Furthermore, the sesame taste was extremely strong when it came to the middle of the bun. This bun was great but could have been better if it was less toasted so to retain the softness of the bun.
Ingredients - The beef patty was rather disappointing. The patty was very thin, it was not juicy at all and was quite dry at the edge. There was also a slice of tomato and 2 slices of lettuce spread with mayo. The mayo actually made the burger tasted better as a whole since it was more tasteful.
Fried Egg - It was made Over Easy with beautiful running yolk! The egg yolk was very sweet and fresh, which definitely add some point to the burger.
Chips - The chips were all cold when served. I only had a few and gave up.
TO CONCLUDE...
I wouldn't recommend Absolute Burger to anyone. Their burger was not particularly nice. The bun itself was pretty nice, but it lacked the softness of a burger bun should have. Too crispy a burger bun literally hurts my lip. The beef patty was nothing special at all and the thickness was just disappointing. Adding the service they provided tonight, I am sorry but I would definitely not coming back.
