Cravingness: ★★★☆☆
I once hated roasted beef and Yorkshire pudding. When I was still studying in UK, my school canteen serves roasted beef and Yorkshire pudding every Sunday (as we called it Sunday Roast.) Now that I have moved back to Hong Kong for long, I missed the Sunday Roast. When I got the invitation to the luncheon launch of English Beef from EBLEX at Yorkshire Pudding, I was very excited.

English Beef The Royal Standard is a sub brand of the EBLEX master brand, which is the organisation for beef and levy payers in England. The England Beef we are tasting today are in the ROYAL STANDARD. If you are afraid to savour English Beef because of the Mad Cow Disease, you can try the Royal Standard of English Beef. They serve the Queen the very same quality beef as well, so the royal standard pretty much serves as a guarantee of premium standard, and pretty safe I presume.
The English Beef is a heritage brand where the cattles are grass-fed on cattle farms in UK. The green logo with an incorporation of the St. George's Cross, the English Longhorn and other key motifs of castles, crowns represent the English Countryside. While the yellow highlights on the logo signifies British Royalty.
Enough introduction, you probably just want to know how the beef tastes like right? Below is the luncheon menu we had today, keep reading!
Carpaccio of English Beef
The beef capriccio was served with olive oil, balsamic dressing, pine nuts, rocket leaves and shaved Parmesan. The beef was pinkish, fresh with a soft texture. The crunchy pine nuts, savoury shaved Parmesan and the balsamic dressing were all well paired to whet the appetite.
The beef carpaccio is paired with Pinot Noir Domaine Lequin 2009 Burgundy. The Burgundy was easy to drink with a light body. It was a pretty good pair to start the luncheon.
Yorkshire Pudding with Gravy
The Yorkshire pudding was surprisingly improved a lot since my last dinner visit. My last Yorkshire pudding was soggy, perhaps they usually bake their Yorkshire pudding during the day. Today's Yorkshire pudding was crispy and puffy on the outside with a soft, fluffy and airy inner. The Yorkshire pudding was aromatic with a strong pastry taste. The gravy was sweet with a little hint of sourness. I do not understand why they served the Yorkshire pudding on its own though, I normally have it along with my roasted beef. They usually share the same gravy.
English Beef Broth
The English Beef Broth was a clear broth with not much beef taste. With a poonful of truffles, it significantly enhanced the taste and the aroma of the broth. The beef in the broth was tender.
The Roast Beef of Old England
Roasted sirloin of England beef maturated on the bone with herbed new potatoes, parsnip and trio of steamed baby carrots, asparagus and broccoli, beef jus
The roasted beef was a sirloin matured on the bone. The beef was roasted medium rare with a pretty strong taste of beef. The texture was tender but rather chewy at the same time. Perhaps it is the characteristic of English Beef that it is more chewy. It was a bit too chewy and lean for my liking.
My personal favourite on the dish was the herbed new potatoes on the plate, it was AMAZING! It was roasted to give a crispy skin and a creamy and soft inner. Yum!
Rhubarb Crumble
The Rhubard Crumble was nicely plated and served warm. The outer crust was buttery, while the inner crumble was a bit tarty but was balanced out by the sweet vanilla ice-cream on top.
Lavazza Coffee was served last to end a great meal.
I am sorry to tell a bad news that if you want to savour the English Beef now, you have to wait. The English Beef in Royal Standard is not readily available at Yorkshire Pudding or any other restaurants at this point yet. EBLEX is still finding a suitable timing and restaurants to introduce their premium beef for Hong Kong people to savour! I will keep you posted if there is any further announcement!
