With a panoramic view of the Victoria Harbour, Aqua is renowned for the breath taking night view and fine Italian and Japanese delicacies. Located on the top floor on 1 Peking Road, Aqua also owned a Sky High Bar with equally amazing view. Aqua has an elegant but simple furnishing and an amazing ambiance, it is a great restaurant for any special occasion anytime of the year. The only hope you have when you dine at Aqua is a good weather.
I have had dinner and drinks in Aqua several times before and I loved the experience. Brunching at Aqua was a different kind of experience. You come to brunch on a lay back sunny Sunday afternoon, seat by a spacious window table, overlooking the beautiful Victoria Harbour, sipping a glass of Veuve Cliequot Brut Champagne, chatting under the warm sunlight. Life should be like this.
Edamame
To begin, a generous bowl of Edamame was served. the edamame was perfectly poached and seasoned with salt. Yummy!
Sushi & Sashimi
The sashimi in Aqua was extremely fresh. In particular, I love the squid and the tuna. The tuna melted almost instantly in your mouth, while the squid was heavenly smooth - like baby skin smooth! Can we have another plate of this please?
Antipasto Plate
Antipasto is a plate of finely sliced Parma ham with rocket salad, buffalo mozzarella and rock melon. The parma ham was savoury, melon was juicy and sweet, rocket salad was fresh but the balsamic sauce was not enough, the buffalo mozzarella cheese was kind of mushy and rough which was disappointing.
Pasta Dishes
Mr. H says Italian love to have a pasta dish on top of their main. Being an Italian restaurant, I guess Aqua goes with that culture. The pasta dishes were all AMAZING, everything was cooked al dente and delicious.
Paccheri "Verrigni" tossed in a duck ragout flavoured with orange & rosemary
This was my favourite out of the three. The Paccheri was cooked al dente, the sauce was amazingly delicious that I can just drink the sauce by itself. It was so good that I almost lick off the plate clean.
Homemade ravioli filled with a puree of carrot gently tossed in a spicy gorgonzola cream with balsamic syrup
I hesitated when I saw the orange filling within the ravioli as I thought it was pumpkin and I hate ravioli with pumpkin. Anyhow I sliced through the ravioli and put the half into my mouth, I was delighted to find it was carrot! The carrot puree was very delicate and refreshing, it was mildly sweet and creamy. The balsamic syrup was a great pair with the carrot ravioli.
Risotto with wild mushroom and 24 month ages Parmigiano cheese
I never truly liked any white sauced pasta, but this risotto with wild mushroom and cheese was a bomb! The risotto was cooked al dente with great chewiness. It was loaded with lots of fresh and bounty textured mushrooms. The white sauce was creamy and cheesy and was very well balanced.
Main
For the Main, Aqua offers Italian as well as Japanese main for diners to choose from. What's good in Aqua is that you can either pick one for your main or you can have all mains in smaller portion, so you can try everything in one go. Just a note if you opt for the options with all mains, the portions are not at all tiny.
Italian Mains
Pan seared fillet of barramundi served with green asparagus & saffron sauce
The barramundi was lovely. I particularly love that smokey and crispy skin with its aromatic fish oil covering the succulent fillet.
Slow cooked Marsala beef cheek with fresh herb potato puree
Judging by the name, you probably could have imagine how tender this beef cheek would be. Heavenly tender and savoury with a great gravy, we cleared this dish fast. The fresh herb potato puree was alright but we want it to be more buttery.
Roasted free range spring chicken served with sautéed spinach, roasted potato and a light spicy sauce
The roasted chicken was alright - it was not particularly tender nor juicy. The dish is not very special and not memorable at all. Skip this if you are to pick one main.
Japanese Mains
Grilled beef tenderloin with butter soy sauce
This dish I would describe as stir-fried fatty local beef with soy sauce. The beef was heavily soy sauce tasted, it was savoury but was not very Japanese in my opinion.
Grilled mackerel
The grilled mackerel was quite nicely cooked, the skin was crispy and the mackerel was succulent.
Pan fried lack pork loin ginger teriyaki
The pork was extremely hard to chewy, it kind of hurts my jaw bone when I finished chewing my first piece. The taste was pretty nice though.
Chicken teriyaki
The Chicken yakitori was extremely disappointing, as the chicken was very rough in texture. I gave up finishing it.
Aqua Signature Dessert Platter
The dessert was beautifully plated. With my nearly exploded stomach, I spooned every dessert at least once to flavour the taste.
Two particular favourite on the plate was the vanilla ice-cream was yum with vanilla seeds on them and the chocolate lava cake with rich and intense chocolate taste.
Aqua is a great brunch place with stunning view and good food. I seriously did not expect Aqua could offer such nice pasta! I would highly recommend Aqua over The Parlour at the Hullet House, which are both located close to each other at Tsim Sha Tsui.
