The recent Beer Pong Tournament did get me to dine a lot in lkf. After our last visit in the Cul-De-Sac, today we decided to dine in Gourmet Burger Union which is just right opposite to CDS.
On our way up the slope, we got this $10 promotion coupon from GBU's worker which suited us perfectly. The GBU store was extremely tiny, it could only fit less than six customers at one time. There was just a couple dinning when we arrived the restaurant, but I felt claustrophobic already.
The menu was hanged high up the wall, there was three preset combo choices at a cheaper price and a $98 value meal of a burger of your choice (with some exceptions), chips and any drinks. The $98 combo seemed to be a great deal, so I took the value meal.
Since the restaurant was small and their kitchen was kind of open, I could watch the whole burger preparing process. They cooked the burger patties and other ingredients on an iron plate and prepared the shakes and the bun at further inside. Watching the preparation scene got us more and more excited.
1) Potato Wedges
I have to say the wedges size totally shocked me. G, it was SO huge! I didn't expect anything of a portion that big in a value meal, especially given how small the burger was. I thought the combo comes with chips, but wedges was even better. I reckon wedges had a more appetizing look than chips, and the texture is usually better too. The wedges were deep fried to give a golden brown colour and was cripsy and nice! The potato inside was meshy, smooth and soft! The wedges had a great taste of potato and the flavour was brought to the max by the ketchup and mustard sauces.
2) Morning Glory Burger $78
The burger looked rather small when compared to the burgers that I have had recently, yet the toppings were loads and stacked much higher than the others. The top and the bottom layer of the sesame buns were both toasted 'til crispy! I always prefer burger buns to be toasted as it gives extra edges to the taste.

The sky high toppings also included fried egg, streaky bacon, grilled Portabello Mushroom, grilled tomato and baked beans. I had to admit my reason in choosing the Morning Glory was because of its Portabello Mushroom. Yet the Portabello Mushroom was in bad quality, it was tiny when compared to Burger room and tasted bitter in general.
The fried egg was Hen's Egg. The fried egg was meticulously prepared, its shape was in a perfect circle as the egg was cracked into a circular iron mold and slowly cooked on the iron plate. The tomato sauce moistened up the burger, so it was not dry to taste. The burger was fine but was just a mediocre one. I personally reckon even Shake'em Buns burgers taste much better than GBU.
3) Strawberry Shakes, was $38
The value mal comes with all flavours of shakes at your choice. Yet the waitress told me there was only strawberry flavour available that night, so I took that. The shakes was very icy, its texture was quite liquid and smooth but did not contain any strawberry squashed bits. The strawberry taste was artificial and was also a bit too sweet.
4) Angry Moto $78
The Angry Moto was one of GBU's new burger at store. It also used their signature 100% grass-fed New Zealand Angus beef. What's so special about this burger was that it has a crispy onion ring as one of the toppings. Just by thinking about having a crisoy onion ring in the burger had already made us very excited. The onion rings were real crispy and had a strong nice onion taste with it.
Despite the patty and the crispy onion rings, there were also tomato, red onion. Spicy pepperonis, siracha chilli sauce, spicy sour cream and lettuce blend in the burger. The burger was not very spicy, however the burger was quite dry to taste when compared to my Morning Glory.

When it comes to burger, there was no way anyone could be not messy. (If you do have a way, tell me.) Unfortunately there wasn't any washing basin or wet towels available at the store, so my hands were full of the smell of burger, and feeling kinda dirty until we found the nearest loo to wash our hands.
