Having heard of Hokkaido Dairy Farm's fame, today I finally had the chance to dine in here. There was quite a lot of people queuing at the restaurant when we arrived at lunch, but the wait was only around 10 minutes before we got our seats.
1) Otaru BBQ pork rice set $39
The dish looked extremely appetizing when served. The sunny egg was made over easy with a wonderful yellow yolk on the rice. The rice was authentic Japanese rice, it was however cooked too soft which gave a horrible meshy texture. The Japanese sweet soy sauce was nice to go with the rice. The taste combination was best when taken together with the sweet soy sauce as well as the egg yolk, which made the rice very smooth to taste. The Otaru BBQ pork on the other hand was extremely salty even without any sauce on it. I could not finish all the BBQ pork 'coz of its saltiness, the guy who sat next to us had several BBQ pork left too.
2)Hokkaido Set $36
The Hokkaido set is available everyday after noon. The set included fried egg and ham with toast, macaroni in soup with BBQ Pork and a drink.
The macaroni with BBQ pork was very salty as well. The soup had a strong taste of peppers when served, which left customer no choice but a heavy pepper taste. The BBQ pork itself was very salty as well, just as salty as the BBQ pork on rice.
The egg was extremely smooth and juicy, it also gave a volume texture. I had my egg on a toast. The toast was thick but was quite soft and spongy with a bit of crunchy texture at its top and bottom. It was spreaded with a tiny amount of butter on it, but was not enough to give a taste. The ham was nicely fried but rather salty. We ordered extra mushroom at side but it was disappointing. It was tasteless and the texture was like those canned mushrooms.
3) Hokkaido Milk & Milk Tea
The hot Hokkaido milk was nice, thick and creamy. Yet the milk tea was not as nice. The milk taste was thin, the tea portion was slightly too much and went bitter at the end. Texture-wise, the milk tea was not thick enough, and was not particularly smooth neither.
In general, the restaurant did not taste as good as its fame. The scramble egg was nice and smooth, but every other things was extremely salty, which made us all thirsty after the meal. The environment was not comfortable to dine in, but a quick lunch would serve fine.
