Glo Restaurant + Lounge is another hotel restaurant offering International Cuisine nests under the Rhombus hotel group. Each Rhombus restaurant has its own uniqueness and at Glo Restaurant + Lounge, they offer a Never Ending Tasting Menu which is an all you can eat menu with 18 courses from starters to desserts for 2 hours, priced at a fairly good deal at HKD338 exc. 10% service charge. The menu changes every month as well to keep their menu interesting.
The restaurant + lounge is in a sleek setup and is pretty petite with approximate 20 seatings. The table spacing is pretty close together, so privacy is not guaranteed. There is an open bar near the front door and an open kitchen at the end.
The 18 courses in the Never Ending menu includes all courses from starters, soups, pasta, meat dishes and dessert. You can also opt for their free flow drink menu at an additional HKD98 with wine, beer and soft drinks. All dishes come in small portion so diners can try different dishes or reorder any of their favourite anytime. Bread baskets will be served along with the courses you ordered.
There are three soups available this month, Roasted Potato soup, Oyster Cream Soup and Minestrone. The Roasted Potato Soup was a savoury cream soup with a strong taste of bacon. There was bacon and potato bites in the soup. The Oyster Cream Soup was a delicate and refreshing soup with sweet Japanese oysters in it. The Minestrone was quite yummy as well with loads of summer vegetables and macaroni in it. My personal favourite from this section is the Oyster Cream Soup.
The Prawn, Avocado, Blueberry & Yogurt Salad was quite interesting with the use of blueberry dressing, but it was a bit too sweet for an appetiser as I am looking for something more refreshing to whet the appetite. The Caesar Salad was nice with crisp romaine leaves and savoury Parmesan cheese. I particularly love the toasted garlic bread on the salad. The Smoked Salmon, Boiled Eggs, Capers & Parsley Salad was alright but I am not a big fan of Salmon. My personal favourite from this section is the Caesar Salad.
We savoured most of the pasta dishes tonight except the Chicken and Mushroom Risotto as we were starting to get a bit full. The Mediterranean Seafood with Angel Hair was quite bland and the angel hair was too soft in texture. The Gnocchi was cooked nice and chewy but the sauce was a bit overloading. The Stir fried US Beef Julienne Spaghetti was delicious, it was cooked al dente with a savoury sauce. It tasted more like a Chinese cha chaan tang style spaghetti to me, but it tasted the best among the pasta dishes. The Scallop & Avocado Risotto was pretty nice too, the pesto sauce was creamy, the scallops were smooth and the risotto was fat and juicy. I would recommend the US Beef Spaghetti here.
The Pan Seared Smoked Duck Breast was my personal favourite from this section. The duck was very aromatic, fatty and had a good chew. The Pan Fried Sole was quite nice too with a crispy crust. The sole was smooth but not exceptional. The Aromatic Baked Norwegian Salmon was just okay, it was pretty smooth as it was cooked sous vide. My recommendation would be the smoked duck here.
Here comes the dessert section which all girls love. My personal favourite from this section would be the Blueberry French Tart which has the appropriate sweetness with a good tartiness. The Cadre Strawberry & Raspberry Cake was quite nice but the crust was too soft and not crumby or buttery enough. The Chocolate Bar was quite rich and mousse cake like.
All in all, the Never Ending Menu literally never ends if your stomach can cater alot of food. I personally am a small eater but I did try most of the items on the menu with the help of my two friends. If you are looking for a causal buffet style diner or if you have choicephobia, Glo Restaurant + Lounge would be your choice!
