[Nha Trang] Banh Mi Crave

We went to the Dam Market for lunch as we heard there are lots of street stall there. One of our objective is to get nice Banh Mi (Vietnamese Baguette). In Nha Trang Dam Market, you can get Banh Mi at the food truck or from the girl with a Banh Mi basket on the street! Lets see how their Banh Mi differs, shall we?

We saw a lot of locals munching on the Banh Mi on the street at Dam Market which arouse our attention in seeking one. We decided to stop the locals and asked them where they got their Banh Mi from. They pointed and to our surprise, it was a young Banh Mi girl carrying a basket selling Banh Mi on the street!

She does not speak English at all, so a woman from the shop nearby jumped in and told us the Banh Mi cost VDN40,000. We did not know we got ripped off until we saw the woman gave only part of the money to the young girl. How dare she took money from that bad translation of hers!

As you can see the girl prepared the Banh Mi on the floor. There was some fabric at the bottom of the basket, but we were still a bit worry about the hygiene. Anyway we feel like eating like a local, so we went on with it.

There was not a lot in the Banh Mi but It was very flavourful, I was super happy munching on it. The baguette was insanely crispy with crackly crust and soft inner. The minced pork was savoury and the sweet and chilli sauce she put on was amazingly delicious! I was happily contended.

Literally minutes later, Henry found another Banh Mi truck. He said he saw suckling pig and want to get another Bang Mi from them. We started checking the truck out and found many other delicious ingredients.

Suckling pig in close, looking smokey and crunchy!

They have Cha Lua (Vietnamese Ham) here as well.

Loads of my fav Nem Nuong (minced barbecued Pork)!!!

The homemade sauces that made each Banh Mi different from one another.

They have an English menu attached on the cart. After checking out their ingredients, Henry decided to get everything. This fully loaded Banh Mi costs only VDN20,000!! WTF we were charged double by the crazy woman earlier!

The Banh Mi was fully loaded with Cha Lua, Nem Nuong, picked carrots, cucumber, coriander and Heo Quay (roasted suckling pig). Pork Liver pate was spread on the baguettes, fish sauce and a brunch of other sauces were added in, resulting in this rainbow flavours in every bite! The baguette itself was equally nice with crispy crust and soft inner. I think most people use the same baguette supplier in Nha Trang.

Even though the second Banh Mi was much flavourful than the first one. I still like the first one more since it was much spicier. I am pretty sure the first one's original price is something like VDN12,000 - VDN15,000. Make sure you do your research and not get ripped off like me! =(
