One thing that I found interesting in Nha Trang is that some typical food you find in the globe tastes different here. So far I found mango, chips ie potatoes and sweet corn carry a chewier texture than the ones that I usually have. The chewiness is cute and addicting. Here in this post, I am going to talk about the corn on a cob in Nha Trang.
Basically you can find the sweet corn street stall everywhere in Nha Trang. There are two kinds of sweet corn selling on the street, the grill and the stream one. I tried the grill one on the first day and had the streamed one almost everyday for the remaining of my trip!

I found amusing how people in Nha Trang carry the grill everywhere they go. The charcoal grill setup is vey simple as you can see from the photo, and the heat is good enough for grilling.
This corn on the cob, looking smoking hot, tasted rather dry in texture. Slightly disappointed but this was how we first found the cute chewy texture the sweet corn delivers! The chewiness is kind of like the huge Peruvian White Corn but much chewier! We didn't finish the sweet corn in the end though because it was too dry.
The next day we found another sweet corn cart looks like the one above. They have sweet corns pile up and hanging on the cart. The happy yellow sweet corn created a big contrast to the light green corn leaves and the deep green cart body. You can definitely see this from far away.
The sweet corn was stream constantly in the streamer, serving crazily hot. The leaves was still attach to the sweet corn when streaming, so the hawker can take the hot sweet corn from the streamer easily.
The hawker next removed the corn leaves and spread loads of butter and salt onto the corn, and put it into a plastic bag below. They will also put some corn leaves on top and tell you (with hand gestures as they don't speak good English lol) to hold the corn with the leaves if you want to eat it to prevent burnt. That's how I found leaves are not a good heat conductor.
The sweet corn on cob was insanely hot that we waited at least 10 minutes before we can actually take a bite on it. The sweet corn was very flavourful from the salt and butter. It was also very juicy and sweet. We got addicted and we kept buying almost everyday whenever we passed the cart!
We reckon the streamed one tastes much nicer as the salt and butter give an addicting flavour to the sweet corn. The streamed one however do not carry as much the cute chewiness as the grilled one. If you only have one chance to try the sweet corn, get the grill one! And make sure they don't overcook it.
