Le Port Parfumé - Classic French Bistro with Innovating Dishes

Price: $$$$
Cravingness: ★★★★☆

Nestled on Kau Yu Fong, an intimate looking restaurant captivates every passenger's attention. This very restaurant is called Le Port Parfumé, a French bistro with its literal French translation as fragrant harbour, apparently aiming to bring fresh seafood in French style to foodies in the neighbourhood.

The interior of Le Port Parfumé is charmingly classy, furnished in dark woods with vintage French posters adorning the walls and gorgeous tiles paving the floor. The fine collection of bric-à-brac and a shelf filled with wine, together with din yellow lighting imbued the dining room an authentic bistro atmosphere.

The menu is a simple two page a la carte menu, but they have today's special on a separate chalk board menu.

Complimentary bread was delicious, we got a second serving of these!

We started with a beautiful plate of French Melon and Bayonne Ham salad - HKD180. Ever since my first French melon at Chef Patrick Deli, I fell in love with it. The melon although was not as crazily delish as Chef Patrick Deli’s, was still sweet and juicy. The Bayonne ham was average with little marbling and not very flavourful. I was most impressed by the baby salad which was utterly fresh, as I had some bad ones at The Envoy which costed me a fortune.

I was informed the Seared Scallop - HKD180 would be cooked medium rare, which I agreed that all scallop should be cooked the same way which gives the best texture. The scallop here was to die for and is one of the best that I have recently had. Silky smooth, supple but bouncy in texture, tasted sweet with a smokey charred on the surface. The vanilla butter was a heavenly pair which left a lovely swirling after taste on the palate.

The White Onion & Cheese Crouton Soup - HKD90 was yet another pleasant dish! Instead of a caramelised coloured broth, the white broth was surprisingly flavourful with much depths! The melted cheese was some nice cheese as well! The crouton totally soaked up the broth essence which was amazing!

The Main Lobster Spaghetti, Lobster Oil & Kombu - HKD250 was another great dish at Le Port Parfume! The spaghetti was cooked al dente with chunks of sweet juicy lobster sitting on top. The sauce was utterly delicious which tasted like lobster bisque that lightly coated the spaghetti without wetting the dish.

The highlight of the meal may actually lie on the dessert - the Blue Cheese Gelato with Honey Comb - HKD75. How weird is to make blue cheese into gelato!? Even I, a big blue cheese lover, carried some doubts about its taste. I just had to ordered this particular dessert to try.

The blue cheese gelato turned out to be delicious. The 'gelato' had a whipped cream texture instead of a gelato texture. It was very light and carried a mild blue cheese flavour. I actually forgot about the honey comb until my few last spoons when I scooped up something chewy and sweet at the bottom. Argh…they should have put the honey comb on top instead!

I have never in my life tried Banana Tartin - HKD75 before, I found the appearance very attractive, shaped similar to a maple waffle. The banana was caramelised, hence utterly sweet and creamy. The ordinary looking ice-cream that sat in the middle of the waffle, was actually topped with ginger powered, giving the dessert an extra kick which I absolutely adore.

I am hugely impressed by the quality of food here at La Port Parfume. Price is very reasonable, with starters ranging at HKD90 - 180, main courses at HKD250 - 380 and desserts at HKD70 - 80. I would definitely come back again.
