Passing by and sniffing the seductive aroma of the pastries several times a week, I could not resist but visit the restaurant today for breakfast, getting ready to start my nice Sunday morning. Upon arriving the Cha Chaan Teng, I saw no freshly baked pineapple pastries that are usually trayed at the front door. Doubtly I went into the restaurant and checked their menus out. The staff told me they don't serve pineapple bun on Sunday. Very disappointedly I had to choose my next best alternative.
1) Toast with condensed milk and peanut butter
I do not really feel for a big set this morning, so I just ordered the toast. The toast was cut in half when served. It was hot and toasted with a nice colour. However I was not contended with the thinly sliced toast. The saucing was pretty pathetic and was dry all the way at sides. Do we really have to request for extra sauce when it comes to toast? Come on.
2) Milk Tea
Feeling dry at my throat, I need a nice cup of milk tea to moisture my throat. The milk tea was served on my favourite ceramic cup and this brought up my expectation. Greater hope brings greater disappointment, the milk tea was dull, tasteless and thin.
3) Puff Pastry Egg tart
When I left the restaurant, two new trays of egg tarts were freshly baked out of the oven. I immediately got myself one. The egg tarts was warm when I got mine. Although looking flaky, the crust was actually not that flaky. The crust texture was quite solid and thick, and was rather heavy on your palate. The egg filling's texture was fine, not particularly smooth. It was slightly sweet but didn't posses any egg taste.
I was rather disappointed about this Cha Chaan Teng. Let's wait and try its pineapple bun out later and see if it could change my perception about this restaurant.
