Curry Bee - Deteriorating Food Quality at

Missing the Japanese curry this Sunday afternoon and feeling the laziness, we decided to stick in Causeway for lunch. Curry Bee came straight to our mind and there we went our lunch.

We didn't expect a line at this late lunch hour but there was a line in front of the main Bee at Jaffe Road. I remembered there was another store at the basement of Sogo, so we went there instead. Yet we saw a longer line waiting. Oh ya, there was this frequent on sale in Sogo that brought this crowds. We have no choice but to wait in line then.

I was elated that we had a corner seat after the wait! I always love corner seat, only in that arrangement you could feel the intimacy and privacy with the love one you are dinning with.

Beef Curry Combo

The lunch combo included a drink and a Hokkaido Milk Pudding as dessert. The combo was slightly cheaper than the dinner meal but not much. The dish looked great when served. The texture of the beef was like beef brisket, tender but too soft. I was expecting sliced beef though. The Japanese rice was sticky and steaming hot. The curry sauce however was not very tasteful. The red pickle although had a good texture, had possessed little taste as well. The curry used to be really nice in Curry Bee. Did the food quality deteriorate, or are our taste buds getting harder to satisfy now?

Hokkaido Milk Pudding

I was a bit upset when I saw the 'cute litte' Hokkaido Milk Pudding. The size was just a bit pathetic given the menu says pudding. I was expecting a larger filled bowl. Fortunately the pudding was pretty declicious. Every spoon was full of strong Hokkaido milk taste, it also contained a tiny pint of milk aroma too. The texture on the other hand was like Chinese Coconut Pudding, which was gelatine like but not particularly smooth

Miso soup

I am not a fan of Miso soup, and if I have a choice, I would usually omit it. The miso taste was too light but yet the soup was quite salty. The ingredients like sea weed and tofu were plenty to accompany the soup. I reckon Curry Bee could do a better job in miso soup.

Pork Chop with egg on Rice Combo

The outlook of the dish was not appetizing at all. The egg  which seemingly disappeared was literally hidden underneath the pork. The egg was cooked over hard and thus lost the dish's signature smoothness, The pork was quite tender and were in generous amount.  The Japanese rice again was sticky and steamingly hot which proved to provide very consistent quality. However the bowl was not very tasteful and I couldn't find any sauce on table to go with the bowl either.

5) Coffee

The coffee was not that nice. It had a light caffine taste and should be made with coffee powder. It also got cold quickly after it was served. I am truly disappointed in Curry Bee's beverage.

TO CONCLUDE...

In general, I was not contended after the lunch. To be blunt, I reckon many aspect of Curry Bee are deteriorating and it was most significantly shown in their dishes. The Curry Bee in sogo was managed like a fastfood restaurant, it was absolutely uncomfortable to dine in the Curry Bee in Sogo. The area was extremely noisy. It was insanely hot to dine in the restaurant since there were tons of spot lights in the restaurant. I was literally sweating, and saw other guys sweating all over too.
