Shakey's Pizza | A Place For Youngster To Cluster

Despite September, November is the most horrible month in a year. Why are there so many November stars? 3 of my friends are having birthdays this month, and one of them chose Shakey's Pizza to celebrate their big month. I had not tried Shakey's Pizza before, but I heard it was not that good, so I did not really anticipating much about it.

The place were fully booked on the saturaday evening, so I went there early to wait for a seating. The receptionist was really nice and she kept introducing Shakey's food to me throughout my wait when there were no customers waiting. They have a membership program promotion going on, but I don't see the point of paying $399 for those benefits they stated. Even a 30% on your birthday month couldn't cancel out the $399 paid, and I wasn't entirely sure there will be a revisit, so I decided to give up the thought.

Per checking the menu, we didn't find the sets of good bargin neither. We decided to order a la carte.

1) Mojo
I insisted on having the dish since I thought it would taste like croquettes, but unfortunately no. Mojo turned out to be pan-fried potato slices. I was disappointed since its look was totally different from the reference picture on the menu. The slices were very thinly sliced and did not possess the deep fried golden brown look as on the menu. The sour cream that came with the dish was pretty tasteless. Fortunately the potato slices were seasoned beforehand, so it alone gave enough taste. A very so-so dish I would say.

2) Salmon Caesar Salad
This probably was the ugliest Caesar Salad that I have ever seen in my life. I used to think it was hard to make a salad look ugly, but Shakey's Pizza totally has the ability to prove I am wrong. The Romaine leaves did not look nor tasted fresh at all, so I just shared a small bowl of that. The bread crumbs were so tiny that you barely sense their exsistence. The salmon tasted normal but the portion was a bit small for the bowl.

3) Mushroom Risotto
Risotto is my all-time favourite, and the risotto in Shakey's Pizza was not good neither unfortunately. The overall look of the risotto was quite decent, but not the taste. The white cream sauce was overly much and made the risotto's too soft without texture. The mushroom was diced nicely but was flavourless. A very disappointing dish indeed.

4) Cajun Chicken Pizza
Having three consecutive disappointing dishes, I was hoping at least their pizza could be good. The pizza was served on a beautiful wooden square board. The pizza had a mouth watery look and seemingly very cheesey and had a generous amount of toppings on it. However the toppings was not evenly spreaded, even worse, the slides were not evenly cut, so there were slides that had lots of chicken and slides that had lots of veggie. I had one that had lots of chicken on it. Its not that I am not a big meat lover, but the chicken waz actually quite rough, so I picked most of the chicken out of pizza halfway. The thin crust was nice, but the very cheesey cheese had no cheese taste.

5) Fried Chicken
Shakey's highly recommended us to try their renowned Fried Chicken, so we ordered a 5pcs basket for starters. Somehow they seemed to have forgotten about this order and hence the supposed-to-be-starters-chicken was served last that night. All the 5 pieces of fried chicken were horribly huge. It was served very hot, which you could still see the oily bubbling on the chickens. The oil bubbling scene was quite frightening, since it signified nothing but fat. However when we had the chicken, they actually weren't that oily. The deep fried skin was nicely seasoned, very crispy and savory. The chicken meat was extremely tendor and smooth. What made it better was that it was spicy! It was indeed a very nice chicken basket!

TO CONCLUDE...

In general, the food were disappointing. There aren't any dish good enough for me to have the urge to revisit the restaurant. Moreover, If you take a quick glimpse of the restaurant, you will find over 50% of the customers were teens. The restaurant was thus insanely noisy, it was extremely hard to make conversion with friends. The only good comments I could make is that the food price was very affordable, but I would not say it was of good bargin 'coz the portion was pretty small.
