Once again, I went to my favourite Flying Pan after a stressful day of work. Flying Pan was as busy as always, even in the weekdays. We were allocated to a squashed corner. Although it was a corner seat, but it weren’t exactly as comfy as the real corner table which is next to ours. It was pretty hard to describe how the table was arranged, and I am a bit lazy in explaining that. Anyway, I wasn’t wholly satisfied with their seating plan.
Since I have tried their Rancheros, Omelettes, Waffles and Egg Benedicts before, I decided to have an all day breakfast for today’s dinner.
Being in UK for 2 years, I was surprised that I had never encountered Black Pudding, not even once. I was very excited about this black pudding, about its look and its taste. When the dish arrived, I immediately went to taste this black pudding out. I was expecting sweetness but it tasted meaty. Feeling confused, I immediately went online and research about what black pudding is. And here is the result.
Black pudding is a type of sausage made by cooking blood or dried blood with a filler until it is thick enough to congeal when cooled. Black pudding in the Unite Kingdom is generally made from pork blood and a relatively high proportion of oatmeal instead of onions to absorb the blood which makes it differ from other countries’ version. Well, quite fascinating isn't it? Prepared from fried blood. Hmmmm, anyway I do think it tasted very nice, very meaty and sausage like. It has a rough and thick texture to give you a chunky mouth feel.
I had my egg made Over Hard since I was not a particular fan of those Over Easy yolks. For some reason, as I grow older, I started to grow away from those seemingly nice yolks. The thoughts of bacteria constantly draws me away from those over easy yolks. Anyhow, I still have some occasionally.
Other sides were great too. Mushroom were very nicely done, just the right texture, not too hard nor soft. It was also mildly savoury. Baked beans is my all time favourite and Flying Pan's baked beans should be the famous one of the kind - Heinz's baked beans.
The Bacons were a bit overly fried, so it became too crispy to me. The muffin were disappointing too. It was overly toasted, or may be its just my personal taste that I love it slightly toasted on the side but still have a very soft fluffy texture in between.
Biscuit & Gravy was literally Scrambled egg, 2 sausages, 2 sides (Baked Beans and Lyonnaise Potato and a small juice. Lyonnaise potatoes is a French dish (Lyon) of sliced pan-fried par-cooked potatoes and thinly sliced onions, sautéed in butter with seasonings.
White gravy is the gravy typically used in biscuits. It is essentially a béchamel sauce, with the roux being made of meat drippings and flour. Milk or cream is added and thickened by the roux.
I myself have not tried white gravy before but I found it was pretty bland in taste, while the biscuits also were rather flavourless, the dish seemed quite colourless. The lyonnaise potatoes tasted flat and the scrambled egg was not savoury enough, In the end, lots of salts were added into the plate to give some flavours.
I concluded that if we are going to have all day breakfast in the future, we might as well cook one ourselves. Yet, Flying Pan remains our favourite in terms of Rancheros, Omelettes and Benedicts. Oh, not to forget the black pudding. If it is really prepared from blood, I would rather enjoy the final product than having to overseen the whole making process.

British Fly Up
For British Fly Up, there was 2 Eggs, Black Pudding, 2 Bacons, Grilled Tomato, Baked Beans, Grilled Mushroom and Toast. I also topped up my small juice to a pot of tea as if my memory, the coffee tasted horrible. Side dishes were not accompanied with the British Fly Up, but judging from the list of foods, I should be satiety with that. The tea pot of my tea was a traditional Chinese ones which I was expecting something pushier, at least not those I could find in conventional Dim Sum places.Being in UK for 2 years, I was surprised that I had never encountered Black Pudding, not even once.
