Beautifood, a salad bar opened by the Demon Chef Alvin Leung, owner of molecular cuisine Bo Innovation and MC Kitchen, is a healthy option in the city. With Chef Alvin Leung, one would expect some kind of interesting twist to Beautifood. Instead of molecular, Chef Alvin decided to infuse Chinese ingredients into the salad to challenge our taste bud and mindset as salad is western food.. Ingredients such as Chinese vinegar and shrimp paste would be used. Interesting!
Located in both central and Wanchai, the target customer is obviously the working group. A small shop at J Senses might be able to satisfy the crowd with a takeaway business. They do have several stools (like 5) at the bar. We went tonight for dinner, the place was pretty empty and we got seated in right away.
Dinner set priced at $68 includes a salad and half a portion of Sushi Burrito of your choice. Some of the options already ran out at 8pm tonight, but we still manage to get something that we want to try.
Sushi Burrito
We had Hot Sichuan Chicken and Chinese Streamed Fish (forgot the exact name) for the combo.
The Hot Sichuan Chicken was very delicious with mild spiciness and sesame aroma. Wrapped within a thin crepe was brown rice, shredded chicken, cucumber, carrots and sesame, creating a rich texture to taste! This roll is delish!
The Chinese Streamed Fish was alright with sea bream mixed with lime sauce. The sea bream was quite smooth but the roll was average, not quite impressive. Go for the Sichuan Chicken instead!
Salty Lemon Salmon Salad
This salad has grilled salmon, nori and veggies. The salmon was slightly toasted with a fire gun to cook it slightly on the surface. The salmon was smooth in texture but not strong in taste. The sauce was quite little, luckily the salty nori brought up the overall taste.
Black Demon Caesar
The Caesar sauce, made with black garlic, squid ink and shrimp paste did appear to be purplish grey in colour. Looking a bit weird, the taste was actually quit bland. The chicken was cooked sous vide and hence very tender and smooth. The fish somehow tasted like salmon. Not bad a salad but definitely not amazing.
With a combo price at HKD$68, it is a great deal. The portion is pretty generous which can definitely fill us lady's stomach. (Not sure for guys sorry lol) Despite the fact that it is a salad bar, I like their rolls more, salads are just pretty average in here. Having said that, Beautifood is not pricey, and if you happen to be around, you can definitely try it out.
