Silly Boo - Terrible Froyo

Price: $
Cravingness: ★☆☆☆☆

I have been to Sillyboo for quite a few times but never really wrote a review on it. Froyo was actually my intiative to start my own blog, then share reviews in different platforms. Froyo race was once my big goal when the froyo stores in Hong Kong can be counted with your two hands.

Same as many froyo stores, Sillyboo has several froyo machines for original flavour and seasonal flavours. Sillyboo offers free tasting of their froyo before making your final choice. The flavours of the day that I went were Caramel, Mango and Original. I asked for a tasting of the caramel froyo and found it was crazily sweet, so I went for the safe choice, the original flavour.

Next I moved on to the topping section. There was around 20 trays of colourful toppings, ranging from fresh fruiits, cereals, chocolates bits, cookies, mochi and sauces. I was disppointed to see such limited choice on fresh fruits. Theortically froyo was meant to be a healthy choice from ice-cream, there won't be much difference if we add loads of cookies, chocolate bits and chocolate sauce on it right? Anyhow, museli and fruits are always my first choice but I chose museli and mochi due to their lack of fresh fruits choice.

My cup of froyo was $36, which was alright I guess. But judging I just had a nice bowl of fishball noodles at a price of $22, a $36 cup of froyo for dessert seemed a bit lavish? How unfortunately that I could not control the quantity of froyo that i want. (I told the server I want only a bit, oh well...)

The original froyo was crazily sweet, it was too sweet to a point that I gave up having it half way. I should have forseen the sweetness from the caramel froyo that I had earlier on. Despite the sweetness, I found the froyo very creamy and quite tarty too. Its a bit confusing to have a sweet and tarty froyo, the sweet to tarty ratio was about 7-3. Out of sll the froyo stores I have been for now, I have never tasted this sweet a froyo before.

The Strawberry Museli was definitely a bad choice for the froyo, since it added extra sweetness to the already overly sweet froyo. The chewy mochi on the other hand was a great match since it was pretty bland itself and could slight bring down the sweet of the froyo.

All in all, I still firmly reckon the greatness of a froyo cup comes from the froyo itself. If your froyo base is good, you don't even need any toppings at all. When it comes to froyo, Sillyboo was doing quite poorly. I remember I once thought Sillyboo was good, may be its the consistency issue. I don't think I would try Sillyboo again, as I know what kind of froyo type I am looking for and there are far more dessert choice in Tin Hau.
