TWG Tea - Pricey Afternoon Tea

Price: $$
Cravingness: ★★★☆☆1/2

TWG Tea, a Singapore origin world-widely known for its fine collection of tea blends, has a tea boutique in IFC Hong Kong. Despite offering a tea shopping experience, TWG Tea also has a tea salon that offers a sumptuous environment for tea lovers to enjoy a cup of tea.

The TWG Tea is very grandly furnished that captures everyone's eye when you pass through the corridor of IFC. From their floor to ceiling golden framed windows, you see rows of elegant samovars on hard wood tea cupboard, Italian marble floors, beautiful teawares and a nostalgic and sophisticated tea salon decorated with blooming flowers.

The menu does not offer too much sweet choices, many are savoury tea sets with sandwiches and burgers. Apart from the normal afternoon tea set, there was a special called Chic Tea set available the day I went and I ordered that to try.

As expected, the tea list is MUCH more extensive than the a la carte menu.

Chic Tea Set - HKD338

I have no idea why is this called a Chic Tea Set as it is fully loaded with heavy, savouries burgers and pastries. Nothing chic-like in my opinion. I also found it a bit strange that they serve the burgers on the side, not on the cake stand as the cake stand looking very empty.

The tea set includes any tea of HKD85 on their enormous range of tea menu. Basically there was not much choice of tea priced in that range, so I ended up upgrade to Lavender Kiss Tea, and paid the price difference. The tea was a light one with mild flavour and aroma with lingering sweetness.

Scones Served with TWG Tea jelly and Whipped Cream
The whipped cream was fine and the tea jelly was lovely but the scone was real bad! it was very stiff in texture and had literally no taste. The only thing that give taste to the scones was the grapes inside it.

The burgers were all very delightful to taste! The Grilled Wagyu Beef Burger was flavourful with a crispy bun crust. The beef patty was meaty, juicy and flavourful with the lovely half melted Emmental cheese and the slightly sour cocktail sauce.

The Roasted Chicken Breast burger (right) was lovely too with the caramelised onion and buffalo mozzarella cheese! The Foie Gras Terrine Mousse Burger (left) was again delicious with silky terrine served with sweet caramelised apple, baby red radish inside a crusty sweet bun.

Macarons again were to my very surprise scrumptious, totally on par with Pierre Hermes. The macaron shell was crispy on the surface, soft and chewy on the inside. The Napoleon Tea & Caramel Macaron had a creamy, sticky, brownie like filling which was lovely! The Grand Wedding  Tea, Passion fruit & Coconut Macaron on the others hand was a lighter flavoured macaron but equally delicious! The chocolate flavoured shell was filled with fruity passion fruit conserve mixed with shredded coconut.

I was very surprised by the quality of the afternoon tea at TWG Tea as I was told by several people that the teaset is awful. Having said that, this Chic Tea set is a seasonal offer and might perhaps tastes better than the normal tea set. However I am not sure if I will come back again to try their normal tea set as I reckon it is too pricey having tea here.
