I have known about Le Canelé d'Or's existence for a while, but not until I started planning for my Paris trip, I actually ordered some canelé from her. I have never tasted canelé myself, so I was kind of excited to try it.
Le Canelé d'Or is the first shop specialised in hand making fresh French pastry canelé in Hong Kong. It an online shop that offers a fast and free delivery service everyday. You can place your order by 8pm tonight and get your free delivery tomorrow by evening or even in the afternoon depending on the delivery location.
The canelé is available in two sizes and three flavours as below
Size:

Flavours:
Traditional - Vanilla/rum
Mediterranean - Orange zest/ liquor
Irish - coffee/ whisky
I ordered the grand size canelé with assorted flavours. They were delivered in a chill package so to ensure freshness. I was impressed by the pretty box packaging - special made box, in a classy brown colour tied with a champagne ribbon, looking grand and precious. I could already feel the heartiness of the chef just by looking at the box.
Upon opening the box, a wave of vanilla comes at you. The canelés had a glossy caramelised crust. The crust was thick but extremely crispy to the extend that its like the caramelised crust of creme brûlée. A contrast to the crispy crust was the soft, tender and rich custard inside. I would say the most approximate of it's custard taste would be egg pancakes Hong Kong style, but canelé tasted much better, taste and texture wise.
If you have never tried canelé before, I highly recommend you to get a box of canelé to try. Perhaps grab a cocktail size assorted canelé to share with your family or friends!
I can't wait to go to Paris to check the difference!
