Grandma's Dessert - The Taste of Local Dessert Soup

Price: $
Cravingness: ★★★★★

I know Chinese Dessert Soup is not everyone's cup of tea, many of my friends do actually prefer western desserts more. With chain dessert shops all around the corner, it might be convenient to dine at those places, but I never found myself truly contended with the taste those chain shops offer. There are certain tastes that you feel contented with and feels right and homey. To fish for those tastes, you really have to go to the local shops for authentic tasted Chinese dessert soup. Grandma's Dessert is among one of them.

I will never discover Grandma Dessert unless Henry brought me here tonight. He said the dessert shop has been here since forever.  The founder a.k.a. the grandma herself has unfortunately passed away. but the delicious taste and recipe are kept. This place still remains the neighborhood favourite in Sai Wan Ho.

Mango Sago with Grass Jelly - HKD14

This is an amazing sweet sago bowl! It was fully loaded with sweet and chunky mango, bouncy grass jelly and chewy sago. It was mildly sweet with a smoothing taste of evaporated milk. Yum!

Sweet Potato Dessert Soup with Sesame Dumpling - HKD16

Sweet potato dessert soup is one of my favourite Chinese dessert soup. The sweet potatoes were very sweet, the sweet soup was mildly sweet with weak ginger taste. Henry said the ginger taste was fine. I guess my family usually make this with lots of ginger, that's why I am more used to a more powerful ginger taste. The sesame dumpling was an add on to the sweet soup. It was not very good, the glutinous skin was too thick, and the sesame filling was not aromatic and tasty enough.
