Grilled Oyster with Chocolate Sauce
I was invited to On On BBQ at Mong Kok to try out some Cantonese BBQ dishes along with some bloggers today. There are more and more Canto BBQ shops opened recently, An An BBQ stands out by creating their own marinate sauces and spices. What's most special about An An BBQ is how they think out of the box and pair interesting sauces with food, like today we tried Grilled Oyster with Chocolate! Want to know more? Keep reading!

Purple Sweet Potato - HKD22

This cute little purple sweet potato, served in a bite size, was very sweet in taste and soft in texture. However I do not think it is smart to serve this dish as the first plate of the meal as it doesn't really whet the appetite. It is probably more of a dessert dish.

Grilled Pufferfish - HKD46

The grilled pufferfish is often ordered as a snack as it pairs well with beer. The grilled pufferfish was quite nice, it was sweet and chewy with no fishiness. It paired well with the Mayonnaise sauce at the side.

Steamed Aubergine - HKD29

The steamed aubergine was fully covered with garlic, as a result this dish was extremely spicy and garlicky. It was pretty good but the skin was still a bit hard after the grilling and the garlic can be more finely chopped.

Steamed Conch in Special House Sauce - HKD44

The conch was steamed wrapped within the aluminium foil with special house sauce, and was hence very aromatic, savoury and spicy! The conch was fresh with chewy meat.

Grilled Pork Neck - HKD36

The grilled pork neck is a typical dish everyone gets at a BBQ joint just because of it meaty and chewy texture. The grilled pork neck here was very thinly sliced and spiced with some spicy powder.

Grilled Shishamo HKD30/4PCS

The skin was grilled crispy and dry which was nice but was a bit bland in taste. They probably should add some (more) salt when grilling.

Mushroom marinated in BBQ Sauce (Sha Cha Sauce) - HKD29

This mushroom again was wrapped in aluminium foil to increase the flavour and aroma. I have never had this BBQ sauce with mushroom before, it was interesting but too sweet for my liking.

Grilled Oyster with Cheese and garlic HKD74/4PCS

I usually only like oyster in raw, but this grilled oyster with cheese was delicious! The oyster was covered with melted cheese and garlic and hence tasted cheesy and garlicky. The oyster itself was very fresh and smooth.

Grilled Beef Ball - HKD15

The beef ball was nicely grilled to give a dry charred outer skin. It was chewy within but not quite juicy,

Spicy Potato Noodles - HKD36

Be warned, the red potato noodles did not give a spicy attack but give more of a spicy aftertaste. The potato noodles always have a good chewy texture, so is a good pair with the spicy sauce.

Grilled Wings with Special House Sauce - HKD28/3PCS

The wings were not grilled enough to give a charred skin, so the skin wasn't crispy enough. The wings were in pretty good sizes, meaty and juicy.

Grilled Pineapple - HKD18

Grilled Pineapple! Should be a great BBQ skewer, but the grilled pineapple's skin was too hard and made it difficult to chew. Taste-wise, it was sweet.

S'more - HKD12

I was elated to see On On BBQ have S'more, but the taste was a bit off. The marshmallow was not roasted enough to give a crispy charred skin, and the cracker they used does not really give a great taste. Graham cracker should be used instead. The chocolate sauce was fine but I do not mind a bit more.

Grilled Leek - HKD14

I was pretty disappointed with this grilled leek because they were  EXTREMELY hard to chew. I gave up in the middle of my first leek and moved on to dessert.

Grilled Oyster with Chocolate Sauce - HKD52/3PCS

Out of curiosity we requested for the dish and were warned this would not be every one's cup of tea. I took a sip on the chocolate sauce on the shell, it had a strong combination of chocolate and seafood flavour. The sauce was actually very nice, and the oyster was smooth and sweet here.
