Fiat Caffé - New Items on Menu

Price: $$
Cravingness: ★★☆☆☆

If you walk along Leighton Road, you might pass by Fiat Caffé and think it is nothing but a car showroom. The two floors Fiat Caffé is a great concept by bringing food and a car showroom together (like how Ikea brought snack shop/ restaurant into their stores). With an eye catching Fiat model displaying on the ground floor, passenger's attention are definitely drawn in. When you step into the shop, an instant flow of coffee aroma hits you and then you will realise there is a cafe located on top.

The Caffé is big enough to accommodate at least twenty people. The table setting is simple but cute with white tables and red artistic chairs. There is also a specially cut fiat car booth for dining!

Thank you Fiat Caffé for inviting me over today to try some new items on the menu such as Roasted Chicken and Pasta items. The menu has a vast range of food and drink selection which is rather surprising. Despite the new dishes, I also tried the classic and popular dishes Fiat Caffé offers. Let's check them out one by one!

Sardine

As informed, the dish is canned sardines served with lemon sauce on a sourdough. At the side is a tin holding Fiat Caffé's homemade mayonnaise and tomato sauce to go with the sardines. The sardines was quite bland in taste, so the homemade sauces did help a lot. Both the mayonnaise and tomato sauce were quite sweet in taste, I personally reckon the tomato base paired better with the sardines. The sourdough was extremely stiff in texture, I think it was not fresh. The capers on was mushy in texture too.

Asparagus

Despite the drooling look, I was a bit disappointed that the asparagus was undercooked, it was quite hard to bite. The poached egg was perfectly cooked with a runny sweet yolk. The shaved pancetta was very savoury and was essential to the dish because the asparagus was quite bland in taste. The truffle butter was very weak in taste (or no taste at all), it might be better if they use truffle oil instead.

Grilled Calamari

The dish was my favourite of the night. The grilled calamari was smooth and chewy, and was paired well with the lemon sauce. Yum! I could clear another plate of this!

Carbonara

The carbonara is a new item on the menu. Instead of bacon, Fiat Cafe used Pancetta instead. The overall taste of the carbonara was very bland, it is lacking of the eggy, cheese and bacon taste that I usually have (or make at home). The spaghetti was also too soft in texture.

Roast chicken

Aother new item on Fiat Caffé's menu. Looking amazing on the plate, the chicken was actually rough like a stone (even the dark meat). The skin was roast to give a nice smoke taste and aroma but was on the hard side as well. The potato mash on the side was a bit rough in texture and lacking of butter taste. This dish has a lot to improve.

Affogato

Fiat Caffé used coffee ice cream as the base, the ice cream was creamy and yum. The espresso they poured in wasn't too hot but lukewarm, so the cup turned cold really fast. The Chantilly added on top was definitely not freshly made, it was stiff and tasted bad. I would rather they not add the cream, the cream kind of screwed the dessert.

Piccolo Latte

The piccolo latte was quite nice with a good body and well balanced milk and coffee taste. The coffee was not strong and was very easy to drink.

The classic dishes are generally ok but the new dishes in Fiat Caffé definitely are yet to be improved. I think it is a great idea to use pancetta in the Carbonara but more flavours should be added in. The Roasted Chicken might be a one/off quality issue, and could be a good dish if nicely executed. Most important of all, Fiat Caffé's coffee was nice and it has a great atmosphere. It is still a good choice for a quick lunch or a causal chit chat with friends!
