No fried chicken can replace Bonchon chicken. You can always see me trying to seek for restaurants that offer a similar taste of Bonchon in Hong Kong. The closest taste and texture I found so far is from Yardbird, Sheung Wang. I saw a photo of spicy fried chicken on instagram one day and I bookmarked the restaurant immediately. The restaurant was ChumChumMi.
Chum Chum Mi is a hip Korean Restaurant located at Tsim Sha Tsui East opposite to Spring Deer Restaurant. The setup was modern with Korean pop music playing on the TV and at the background. Each table has an individually griller installed and a long gas fan set above the griller. The menu are extensive with tens of pages. The restaurant seems pretty authentic as the night we went to ChumChumMi, all customers were Korean.
My main highlight tonight is ChumchumMi's Korean Fried Chicken with spicy sauce, which totally satisfy my mad crave of Bon Chon in Hong Kong. With a sexy orangy look, these delicious fried chickens made my day. The crust was crunchy with savoury sauce with juicy meats. Yet I reckon Yardbird's taste better as ChumChumMi's fried chicken was not "crystal crispy" enough, the very crystal clear crisp sound bonchon offers. ChumChumMi also offered white raddish at the side along with spicy dish, another point point proving authenticity.
The pan fried kimchi pancake was disappointing. The cake was chewy but it was not crispy and had no kimchi taste at all.
The seafood tofu soup was the spiciest dish tonight but still was not spicy enough. The broth was sweet with seafood taste and had loads of clams and shrimp in it.
Korean rice cake is another favourite of mine. This seafood cheese rice cake was devilishly looking with a sea of melted mozzarella cheese on top of clams, shrimp, yellow and red pepper. The dish was savoury and pretty much like a casserole
The portion at Chum Chum Mi is generous, everything is in big portion. It is a good spot for hosting parties or big gathering. The food is generally good here but the spiciness has definitely tuned down to cater local's taste bud.

Banchan
The Banchan was quite nice at ChumChumMi. There were kimchi, courgette, white raddish, fish ball, sweet potatoes. The sweet potatoes was delicious with crispy skin.
