[Nha Trang] Hotel - Sunrise Nha Trang Beach Hotel & Spa

http://laodong.com.vn/

Among all the international hotels in Nha Trang eg Intercontinental, Best Western, Novetel, we decided to go for Sunrise Nha Trang Beach Hotel & Spa. Why? The reason is simple, the international hotels are too conventional and modern in style. When we go on holidays that involve beaches, we want something exotic! Sunrise Nha Trang is a beautiful colonial style 5 stars hotel in Nha Trang, Vietnam. We fell in love when we laid our first sight on the hotel. Seriously, who could not?

Nha Trang Sunrise Beach Hotel is 35km from Cam Ranh Airport. We took around 30 minutes to get to the hotel by Taxi. And a friendly reminder if you happens to skip my Nha Trang Guide before reading this hotel review(Click here to read!), DO NOT take taxi by meters! It will drain your wallet.

To our very surprise, the bell boy was not at the concierge. We had to carry our luggage to the reception ourselves. Meh!

Sunrise Nha Trang's Lobby is pretty grand with high ceiling, marble floors and large windows which allow natural sunlight to shine through. While I sent my boyfriend to handle the check in procedure, I went on checking the hotel out.

The waiting lounge is composed of comfy sofa and coffee tables. There is a grand piano at the center of the waiting lounge, but I have never seen anyone played it during my stay. There are 2 gift shops right next to the waiting lounge for anyone who need to get last minute souvenirs.

There is also a cafe, a colonial styled restaurant and a few more shops at the other end.

Sunrise Nha Trang was the 2013 winner of the travellers' choice on Trip Advisor.

We were offered a glass of welcoming drink at the reception. Later on we found this iced tea is served everywhere at Nha Trang.

The receptionist speaks good English. They also offered us a local map and Vietnam guide book for our reference which was helpful as we did not really plan ahead for this trip.

The Sunrise Nha Trang consists of two buildings. The main building (above photo) holds the reception, the Imperial Restaurant, the Sky Lounge, the outdoor colonial swimming pool, art gallery, club lounge and smaller room and suites. The side building (below photo) holds larger suites, Spa centers, a Japanese restaurant and an Irish Pub.

We booked almost the biggest suite available since all rooms & suites are relatively cheap when compare to other cities. Our 55sqm Sunrise Club Suite only costs VDN3,110,000 (HKD1,183) per night! What's the reason for not going big in Sunrise Nha Trang?

Sunrise Club Suite

Our Club Suite, located at the side building, was as promised very spacious and comfy. It is fully equipped with comfy queen bed, large TV with DVD player, one two-seated sofa and a one-seated sofa, a working desk, a wardrobe with bath robe, laundry bag and slippers. I especially love the colonial design which incorporates in the suites as well! There is also a balcony with a panoramic view of the sea.

We told Sunrise Nha Trang it was our wedding anniversary (not!) so they gave us a complimentary tray of chocolates. I was expecting nice decorations in the room but never mind. Btw the chocolates tasted horrible, so we asked them to stop sending them everyday.

The terrace was sadly very narrow that you can only stand on it which makes it pretty pointless. The seaview was amazing though, we got a panoramic view of the Nha Trang Beach. Our suite can also see the colonial swimming pool at the main building.

The bathroom was worthy to mention! It was huge with full bath amenities! There is even a luxurious jacuzzi in the bathroom!

They don't have cotton pads on the tray!!! =(

The two complimentary bottles of water were tiny and we have to ask for more everyday.

Sunrise Nha Trang Private Beach

Out of the room, we also went to Sunrise Nha Trang's private beach. They have sun beds, umbrella and towels at the private beach. As the beach is just right across the road of the hotel, you can just wear your bikini and walk towards the beach empty handed! (Remember to bring your own music speaker!)

When you come back from the beach, you can wash you feet at the "Foot Wash Station" at the entrance of the hotel.

Sunrise Nha Trang Swimming Pool

We only spent a day at Sunrise's colonial swimming pool. The circular pool was quite deep in depth and was small. There are loads of sun beds here for sun tanning. There is also a bar at one end of the pool. Yet I reckon it is better to enjoy the sun at the beach.

Lobby Lounge

Our Club Suites granted us daily complimentary drinks and pastries at the Lobby Lounge. We tried some pastries on our first day and they were quite nasty in taste. We found out later that they never change the pastries in the display fridge! Oh man.

The drinks were good at the Lobby Lounge though, especially Cafe Sua (Vietnamese iced coffee) and bird nest served in a can. Bird nest is famous in Nha Trang as Salangane Island (Yen Island), which is only 17km from Nha Trang, provides great habitat for the birds to rest their nests. The bird nest tasted sweet with bits of bird nests to chew on. Not the fancy kind you have at home, but is a good drink!

Sunrise Nha Trang Spa
The spa center is slightly more pricy than the other spa centers in Nha trang, yet it does not mean it is better. The showering facilities and storage room are bigger but the spa room was quite crappy. The sound system was totally cracked and the supposingly relaxing music sounded like people farting! The other spa in Nha Trang we went is called Lucky Foot Massage and we loved it! (Click here to check Lucky Foot Massage review.)

Transpiration to/from Sunrise Nha Trang

Transportation is easy in Nha Trang. The hotels, restaurants, pubs, beach and the sight seeing spots are in close proximity. Sunrise Nha Trang is a bit further from the center but is still only around 25 minutes by walking or Don40,000 (HKD16) by taxi. If you needs airport transportation, it is better to book through the hotel than by taxi meters. The hotel rate is MUCH cheaper at Don350,000 (HKD134) from airport to Sunrise Nha Trang and Don250,000 (HKD96) the other way round.

The Imperial Restaurant

The Imperial restaurant is a beautiful colonial restaurant located at the front of the hotel that offers international Cusine. Both indoor and outdoor dining a are available at the restaurant. When 6pm hits, a live band will be playing at the terrace, making the whole ambiance lively.

We had only been to the Imperial Restaurant for breakfast which was included in the room charge. The breakfast selection is vast, they have Vietnamese, Japanese and international cuisine. There are numerous buffet stations around the restaurant, so you do have to walk through the whole restaurant to get what you want.

I made myself a full breakfast on the first day with evil cheese omelet, crispy bacon, grilled sausage, roasted tomato and baked beans.

The Imperial Restaurant also offers Pho but it was not good. The vermicelli was made too soft and the broth was not as flavourful as Pho Hong (Click for review) or Hong Giang (Click for review).

My favourite buffet stand at the Imperial restaurant is probably the Vietnamese cuisine stand, several Vietnamese traditional breakfast food are offered here. We tried the Vietnamese float cake and the Banh Cuốn (rice flour steamed rolls). They also have Cháo (congee) with beef available as well but this was not too different from the Chinese congee.

Coffee and tea are included in the room charge, there is also a juice station with four different juices selection each day.

Sky Lounge

The sky lounge is a beautiful dome shaped lounge located on the top floor of the Sunrise hotel. The indoor lounge area features comfy lounge chairs while the outdoor area offers a spectacular view of the Nha Trang beach. Liquors selection is vast, typical cocktails can be found here. Several Vietnamese beers are available and some on tap too. Food is surprisingly good at the Sky Lounge. They offer international cuisines here and the Vietnamese dishes are great!

Overall, I am very satisfy with my stay at Sunrise Nha Trang. My club suite was nice, wifi is available in the room and around the hotel, the pool was pretty, the private beach was just steps away, the food at Sky Lounge was amazing, the breakfast at the Imperial Restaurant was good. The only bad experience I had was at the spa center. Other than that, Sunrise is perfect.
