[Nha Trang] Sailing Club - Must Visit Vietnamese Restaurant in town!

Price: $$
Cravingness: ★★★★☆

My first impression of sailing club was "the touristy restaurant" where it got all these positive reviews from Trip Advisor, travelling guide etc, the western point of view if you know what I mean. Given the superior furnishing at Sailing Club, I naturally assumed it only has "the look". Anyhow I still went to pay a visit and it was surprisingly great! Sailing Club is a whole package and I will walk you through why in below paragraphs!

Sailing Club is beautifully furnished, it is hip, cool and exotic at the same time. The entrance is impressive, Sailing Club made it like a hotel's entrance. It has the pond with greens at the side and the spot lights shines the restaurant name on the wooden tiled floor.

The interior is even better with cabana beds beside a blue lighted pool, there are also swing chairs available.

Walking towards the main dining area, on the right was an area with a beautiful budda paintings, and swing for fun.

Sailing Club sits right beside Nha Trang's beach where you can admire the view and enjoy the sea breeze during the day. After sunset, the dining area becomes much more sophisticated and romantic accompanied with gas lamp on the table.

You can even dine or sip a glass of cocktail lying on the cushion on the beach!

So move on the menu. I was told by the Sailing Club Divers that their Vietnamese food is amazing but you have to request for the menu, if not they will just hand you the traditional international menu. It was later proven true, the Vietnamese menu was only given when asked for it.

Service is great here. Most of the staffs speaks good English. All staffs are amiable and welcoming but they are not too attentive, especially when the restaurant gets very crowded at night. Sailing Club does not seem to have enough man power to handle the crowd.

Towels infused with lemon grass was given upon seating which was lovely.

Food and drink took a while to deliver, so relax yourself at the seaside and enjoy the breeze. Or take some pretentious photos like we did by the sea side =P!

Vietnamese Rice Paper Rolls (Gỏi cuốn) - Don110,000 (HKD42)
The first dish is one of my fav - the Vietnamese Rice Paper Rolls/ summer rolls. The summer roll consisted of prawn, rice vermicelli and shredded carrots wrapped in Vietnamese rice paper, served with chilli soy sauce and fish sauce.

The summer roll was very fresh with crisp carrots, chewy vermicelli, fresh prawns. It did not have the minced pork as most usually do, so it was rather bland in taste and you definitely need the dipping sauces to give some flavours.

I usually have the summer roll served with peanut sauce and/or fish sauce in Hong Kong (apparently not very authentic), so I was reluctant to try the chilli soy sauce at first. Turned out, the chilli soy sauce matched with the summer roll very well!

Sautéed Beef in Green Pepper Sauce (Bo Xot Tieu Xanh) - Don180,000 (HKD69)
Effing amazing dish! The broth was insanely good with rainbow flavours! It had a strong and lovely butter flavour, it was also very herby, slightly sweet and a bit peppery as well. The broth was so good that we literally cleaned the plate with the baguette that served along with this dish. The beef itself was slightly on the lean side, but was very tender and had great beef flavour!

The baguette was also GREAT! It was extremely crispy on the outside and soft and spongy on the inside. The sautéed onion totally absorbed the amazing broth which tasted fantastic!

Grilled Oyster (Vem Hoac Hau Dut Lo) - Don120,000
The oysters came in nicely grilled with melted cheese, egg, onion and garlic on top. The mussels were very fat and meaty. The overall flavour tasted quite Portuguese to me at first, but as soon as you added the limey sour dipping sauce, the dish suddenly tasted more refreshing and more Vietnamese.

Sailing Club Panna Cotta
The panna cotta was moreishing! It was coconut flavoured and had a very interesting texture which was more gooey than the normal panna cotta that I had in Hong Kong. The blueberry jam on top also tasted amazing! There were bits of dry blueberries mixed in the jam and gave a great texture! I love this Vietnamese panna cotta.

Coconut
I have never seen any place served coconut as in Nha Trang. They like to cut the green shell off the coconut and serve it like the picture below. The coconut was not as sweet as the one in Thailand but tasted a trillion better than the ones in Bali. The coconut tasted very much the coconut water like the one Jax Coco offers.

Vietnamese Coffee

A lovely aroma permeated through the air when the Vietnamese coffee was served. I love Vietnamese coffee as it is naturally sweet with notes of hazel nut, caramel and cinnamon. The concentrated milk (solid milk as Vietnamese called it) is always added to the cup, it was a bit too sweet for me but still a very nice coffee to enjoy.

We had a lovely dinner at Sailing a Club and were hugely impressed by the Vietnamese food here. Make sure you put Sailing Club as one of the restaurants to try in Nha Trang during your stay! It is definitely worth it!
