Steik World Meats - New Afternoon Tea

Price: $
Cravingness: ★★★☆☆

I was invited over to Steik Wold Meats at K-11 as they have recently launched an afternoon tea session. The afternoon tea highlights a wide range of savoury and sweet delights, priced only at HKD248+10% for two with complimentary coffee and tea with unlimited refills. I have always wanting to try their steaks, but it is nice to try their afternoon tea too.

Steik World Meats is tucked away on the 3rd floor of K-11. You can savour the tea set at their sophisticated main dining room or the outdoor garden terrace. I prefer the outdoor garden as I love the sun and the greens. It would be nicer if the tables aren't high table and chairs. After all, it is quite hard to relax on them.

The savoury and sweet delights are a little reflection of the a la carte menu, capturing the most popular dishes at Steik World Meats. Everything on the tea set is homemade, from the bread to the salmon smoking and beef ageing etc.

The afternoon tea set is a great deal, which includes a level of savoury treats, two levels of sweet treats and a basket of scones with a tray of clotted cream and jam. Let's check the delights one by one starting from the savoury first!

Mini Quiche
The Mini Quiche is a very eggy and creamy tart with a crisp asparagus in it. The tart was buttery but too soft in texture.

House Smoked Salmon sandwich
This sandwich is made a finger sandwich with a thin slice of smoked salmon and some caviar on top. There was sweet mayo sauce sandwiched between soft bread. The smoked salmon is made in house with puer tea but was slightly too thin to give any taste.

Croque Madame
A twisted on the egg on the croque Madame, Steik used soft boiled quailed egg instead. The quail egg was cute but had no flavour. The melted cheese with ham was savoury and powerful.

Grilled Iberico Ham "Bikini" sandwiches
The sandwich was everyone's favourite. I can see why as it was filled with truffle aroma. I did not like it too much as the sandwich only has the aroma but lacking of the taste and texture as the iberico ham tasted rather bland and the toast was soggy in texture.

Chicken Liver Parfait with Sauterne Jelly
This was my personal favourite on the tea set. The chicken liver was rich, smooth and savoury. The Sauterne Jelly added a sweet wine note to the pastry. The toast was again soft in texture, but the overall impression was good.

Scones
The scones had a funny texture here at Steik, it was chewier than the normal scones. It was buttery and weighted quite heavy on the palate. I prefer buttery, soft, airy and a bit flakey on the outside.

The clotted cream was the housemade kind, it was quite smooth and was not too sweet in taste. The jams were fine and great to pair with the scones.

And on to the sweet side.... Let's check out the 2nd level first!

Macaron (Left Bottom)
First we had the macaron. The bright pink coloured shell looks very artificial coloured. The shell had a strong almond flavour, very flakey but lacked the chewiness that I was looking for. The filling was white chocolate ganache which was a bit too sweet for my liking.

Mini Lemon Meringue (Left Top)
This mini lemon meringue is to be loved. The lemon custard filling was sweet and tarty and the meringue on top tasted more like toasted marshmallow than meringue.

Chocolate Marquis (Right Bottom)
This chocolate marquis was extremely rich, moist and sweet. Great for chocoholic but not me.

Creme Brûlée (Center Middle)
Hmmmm this passion fruits creme brûlée was awesome! The caramelised layer was made nice and crunchy, the custard bursted with passion fruit flavour which was a surprise.

Moved onto the first level....

Strawberry Tart (Left Front)
This fruit tart basically fulfilled the colour contrast task on this tea set. Taste wise it was nothing spectacular and had a soft tart base.

Chocolate Eclairs (Center Front)
The Eclairs was a soft puff with creamy and sweet cream but the puff was too soft in texture.

Opera Cake (Right)
The opera cake was rich and sweet. It was filled with coffee aroma. Again a piece for sweet tooth only.

Blueberry Cheesecake (Left)
The cheesecake was very sweet with a mild cheese taste. Texture wise it was moist and smooth. The blueberry jam on top was at appropriate sweetness and carried blueberry bits in it.

I generally reckon the savoury pastries tasted better than the sweets treats. My personal favourites on the tea set were the mini quiche, chicken liver with sauterne jelly, lemon meringue and creme brûlée. The sweet treats are generally very sweet in flavour, it would be a great news to sweet tooth but definitely not me! If you want something bubbly, you can also opt for a sparkling champagne for additional charge!

Remember the afternoon tea session opens from 3pm - 5.30pm everyday!
