[Nha Trang] Việt Nam Xưa - Come for the LOBSTER!

Price: $$$$
Cravingness: ★★★★☆

Our first encounter with Vietnam Xua was at the airport travel counter of Sunrise Nha Trang Beach Resort. We thought the guy was the staff of the hotel but he handed us a leaflet of Việt Nam Xưa. We ignored him right away but he did quote us a good price to the city. We decided to pay Viet Nam Xua a visit after we passed by the restaurant one day and got attracted by its exotic vibe and fresh seafood stands at its front entrance.

Viet Nam Xua is an exotic restaurant amidst the busiest street of Nha Trang. The restaurant name stands for "old Vietnam" in English, it has a corridor features the history of Vietnam with a series of black and white photos framed on the wall. The restaurant is a three levelled restaurant with an outdoor dining area situated on the ground floor. The outdoor area has the best vibe, filled with dark wood furnitures and green plants. The temperature at night was pretty chill, so we opt to sit outside.

The most exciting part at Viet Nam Xua lied at the seafood station which is situated at the entrance. Tons of fresh seafood are displayed on the ice tray. The very seafood that caught our attention was, by no doubt, the lobster!

The sexy lobster sparkled with its green outfit and revealed its flesh from a missing shell. The lobster was huge and weighted over a kilogram. The price was around HKD550 (US71) which we thought is a great bargain, so we took it without a second thought.

The menu at Vietnam Nam Xua is extensive with authentication Vietnamese dishes. You can almost find any Vietnamese dishes here. The menu looks like an ancient recipe, which looks kind of cool, All items here come with a US price, so you can roughly know the price of the dishes without converging much.

Coconut - VDN39,000 (HKD14.80/US1.85)

The coconut in Vietnam was not as sweet as the ones in Thailand, but we still like it as it helps cool down the heat.

Oyster Baked with Cheese - VDN126,000/kg (HKD50/US$6)
The oyster at Vietnam is very small in size than the oysters in Europe and US. Yet it's nice as it's in bite size, so you can just slurp it! The oyster was cheesy but lack of its own flavour.

Vietnamese Old Style Jellyfish Salad - VDN95,000 (HKD36/US4.50)
As I was stang by jellyfish during scuba diving, I have to take my revenge by eating them. The salad was very fresh and crisp with chewy jellyfish.

This jellyfish tasted more chewy then the jellyfish in Hong Kong, but still tasted bland so the sauce was definitely needed. The shrimp crisps were mad soft, gosh knows how long these have been let cool.

Bánh Xèo Thit (Vietnamese Pancake with beef) - VDN57,000 (HKD21.50/US2.70)
The Bánh Xèo Thit is one of the must try traditional food in Vietnam, especially in the Southern part. It is not readily available in many restaurant in Nha Trang, so we grabbed our chance to order it when we saw it. Bánh Xèo Thit is basically omelet but with a crispier surface. The version in Viet Nam Xua was not too special, but I have seen more exciting ones online.

Lobster
We were super duper excited when the lobster arrived at our table. It was truly HUGE! I have never really have lobster this huge before. The lobster flesh was sweet, creamy, juicy and bouncy! The spread of garlic was spot on, delivered a great flavour without overpowering the natural flavour of the lobster!

The lobster is bigger than my face!

rau muống xào tỏi (Stir-fried Morning Glory with Garlic) - VDN38,000 (HKD14.50/US1.80)
With an ordinary look, the dish stunned me! The morning glory was juicy, fat, very crisp and extremely fresh with a wonderful green flavour! The flavour and freshness aren't something we can have in Hong Kong.

Fried Rice with Seafood in Clay Pot - VDN95,000 (HKD36.20/US4.50)
The fried rice was done well, keeping each rice grand dry. The seasoning was light, so the seafood taste stood out.

Cà Phê Sữa (Vietnamese Coffee) - VND29,000 (HKD11.10/US1.38)
What's better to end a meal with Vietnam Coffee? We had a few cups at Nha Trang already, but none serve the coffee filter until we were at Viet Nam Xua. The coffee was as typical sweet with a strong caramel note. It was lovely even without the solid (condensed) milk.

Even Viet Nam Xua is highly advertised in Nha Trang, the place is authentic. The seafood was extremely fresh and delicious, and I would highly recommend Viet Nam Xua if you want seafood at Nha Trang.
