Mott 32 - Best Cod Fish On Earth!

Price: $$$$
Cravingness: ★★★★★

Mott 32, an exciting Chinese Restaurant newly opened at central, is the talk of the town lately. I would never ever expect such a great hype on any Chinese restaurant. The grand opening night of Mott 32's was truly grand and magnificent. The entrance was red carpeted all the way to the restaurant, celebrities, skinny models with flashy outfit and smart looking guys were everywhere at the night of the opening.

Mott 32 is the new venture at the gourmet family Maximal Concepts, which also owns restaurants such as Blue Butcher, Brickhouse and Fish and Meat. I am a big fan of the group myself. Given the background, the food quality at Mott 32 is much guaranteed. I was invited over for a tasting at Mott 32 tonight, so let me show you what's good in there.

Once you descended the escalators, passed the reception, down a flight of stairs surrounded by mirrors, you entered into Mott 32's dining hall which is spacious, elegant and modern. The vibe is completed with rustic industrial elements and elegant Chinese elements e.g. The beautiful China vases with fragrant lily and Sun Zhongshan graffiti on concrete walls. Noise level is very mild, so you can enjoy your dinner here. I came on a rainy day, and Mott 32 offers umbrella check in with a number tag, which was an excellent service as my previous beautiful umbrella got stolen at Chachawan. =(

There are private rooms for diners who want more privacy. This room is also great for business meetings.

At the corner of the dining hall rested the custom made duck oven lined with grey bricks where the famous duck got roasted.

At the right of the oven is the special air-drying duck fridge. Every duck goes through 82 hours from air drying to seasoning, smoking and roasting before it got served on your table. Do not simply expect you can walk in and savour this little precious peking duck. They only serve 12 ducks each night, so MAKE SURE YOU RESERVE A DUCK when you make your table reservation! Don't cry when it is sold out!

The mixologist is awesome here at Mott 32. Most cocktails are designed to infuse a few Chinese elements in it. I tried 3 cocktails tonight and they were all awesome! The only downside would be the hefty price.

On Leong Tea Cocktail - HKD110
The On Leong Tea was a rum based cocktail infused with passion fruit, guava and Chinese Tea. I love the cute Osmanthus and Oolong tea ball submerged in the cocktail, the tea aroma was however less aromatic than I thought. The cocktail is more a fruity girly drink filled with passion fruit notes.

Hong Kong Ice Tea - HKD130
This cocktail should be named the Hong Kong bubble tea instead as it is filled with bubbles! A Reposado Corralejo Tequila and Lillet Blanc based cocktail infused with black current and Jasmine tea, bewarned this cocktail is strong! My first slurp of the cocktail nearly choked me to death LOL.

Kurobuta Pork with Soft Quail Egg & Black Truffle - HKD60/ 2 pcs
One of the best Siu Mai I have ever tasted, this kurobuta pork and black truffle version from Mott 32 is commendable! The truffle aroma just lingered and swirled on your palate. The pork was very meaty and bouncy with an eggy flavour from the quail egg.

Signature Crispy Sugar Coated BBQ Spanish Teruel Pork Bun - HKD60
One addicting and moreish little pork bun which we all wanted a tray by ourselves. The bun was crispy on the outside with tender pork on the inside. The combination of sweet and savour flavours was overwhelming!

Barbecue Prime Iberico Pork with Yellow Mountain Honey - HKD295
What a heck of Cha Siu! The first thing I do (after taking this picture) was to pick up the end piece which was PERFECTLY charred with a lovely smokiness and great crispiness! This cha siu differs from others by using Iberico pork, a premium to the Chinese Pork. This cha siu was seriously tender with creamy fats! A heavenly sensuous piece.

Deep Fried Squid, Sweet Chilli and Lime Zest Sauce
Next comes the deep fried squid which was pretty average but the chilli sauce was killingly spicy!

Stir Fried Prawns, Pumpkin, Salty Egg

One of my favourite dish of the night was the Stir fried prawns with salty egg, pretty much  a premium version of a great Dai Pai Dong dish. I don't know how Mott 32 did it, but the puff was deep fried extremely light, crispy and grease free! The salty egg yolk with sweet shrimp was utterly palatable, the sweet potato was sadly quite bland in taste. The fried pieces of the shrimp looked exactly the same as the sweet pumpkin, so a little surprise to the palate for each bite! =)

Aged Black Vinegar Sweet & Sour Pork - HKD180

Deeeeeliciousssss! Not the typical sweet and sour pork you think it is. This premium spanish pork was mad crunchy on the outside with a tender inner. The sweet and sour flavour was spot on, the dragon fruit was use to substitute pineapple so the sweetness of the dish is brought down. Another lovely thing was that you can easily tasted the vintage vinegar on this dish. MUST ORDER PLEASEEEEE!

Australian Wagyu Beef M5+ Sirloin with Shiitake MushroomsSzechuan Potatoes & Baby Leek - HKD390
The beef cubes were juice bursting succulent but got rather stringy at some points. The potato cubes were starchy, creamy and soaked up the soy sauce which made it flavourful. This is basically a soy covered dish with bold flavours.

Black Cod in Clay Pot - HKD220
The absolute BEST FISH DISH I had for years. I am no big fan of fish but this was utterly addictive, I had so many pieces of it. The dish was succulent with a lovely skin having a combination texture of soft, moist and crunchy. The fish flavour was sharp, I never have fish with such strong flavour for a long time.

Traditional 12 Hours Slow Cooked Sticky Pork Belly - HKD190
Make sure you have tried this 12 hours braised pork belly before your worry about the likeliness of an heart attack. The 12 hours braising totally worths the calories as the pork belly was mad tender! Sauce wise it was lighter than I expected, but generally good.

Braised Eggplant, Minced Meat, Chilli

A very comforting dish with solid flavours. Good to go with the fried rice served next.

Fried Rice with CrabmeatConpoy & Egg White - HKD230

The fried rice was fried dry without grease. Each rice grains stood along by itself. The fried rice was lightly flavoured with crabmeat, dried scallop (conpoy) and egg white.

Stir-fried Asparagus
Chinese always need to have at least one veggie dish on the table, and today we have the stir-fried asparagus served. The asparagus was crisp and delicate.

Green Tea Coated Chocolate Mousse
The chocolate mousse has a lovely green tea chocolate coating. The chocolate mousse filling was mildly sweet and silky. The overall taste is like having lindt chocolate but in cake size. The sesame on top was soft and did not give any taste to the chocolate cake. It would be much nicer if the sesame could give some toasty aroma to the cake.

The Milk Tram - HKD90

A must drink cocktail for green tea lovers, the milk tram is to be loved. A vodka based cocktail with vanilla syrup, almond milk, matcha tea, egg white and cinnamon. As expected, a very smooth and creamy drink that was milky with a lovely note of matcha and a mild alcohol content, spiced with a haze of cinnamon aroma.

Most dishes are spectacular at Mott 32. I knew the meal would be good at Mott 32 even before the dinner tonight based on the fact that it is a Maximal Concepts restaurant. I really love the dim sum, the shrimp with salty egg, sweet and sour pork and the black cod in clay Pot here. I would highly recommend this place for friends, family and business gathering.
