There are cuisines that I would grow sick of, but definitely not Spanish! I went to Tapaella Grill in Kenny Town tonight. Tapaella Grill is a petite Spanish restaurant with simple furnishing and feels like a home run restaurant. I was expecting friendly and warm staff but staff here are quite cold. While I was also thinking a petite Spanish restaurant would not be too popular on Hau Wo Street, the night was actually full house, not to mention it was a rainy night.
The menu is extensive, but we always have a bit of favourite in our mind so it was not too difficult before we reach our decision. A basket of house bread was served soon after you ordered your food. The house bread was hot and warm with a subtle garlic taste with it. I ate all of them as I was too hungry waiting for my first tapas.
A beautiful dish of garlic tomato bread topped with 18 months cured Serrano ham. The tomato garlic bread was the same as the complimentary house bread which was not exciting. The toast was also not crunchy enough for this dish. The tomato cubes and the Serrano ham was decent, the combined flavour with the garlicky sauce on the toast was quite enjoyable overall.
I love love love croquettes and this golden brown croquettes are made with ham and chicken. It had a super crunchy crust and a meaty filling.
I never tried Calamares Rellenos before and I think the presentation looked much better than many photos you can find on google image. However I was a bit disappointed at the calamari texture as it was a bit rough and rubbery. The dish was saved by the savoury minced pork filling and the refreshing lemon, olive oil and garlic dressing that balance out the heavy tasted filling.
Here comes my beloved dish paella but bigger disappointment in here! The seafood - mussels, squid and prawns were all tasted dead with bad texture. The rice and sauce were actually decent but the seafood ruined the dish.
I did not try enough items on Tapaella Grill's menu to make a verdict on its overall food quality. If I were to judge only by the food I had tonight, I am definitely not happy at all. I hope this is only an one off thing.

Check the picture below and you can see loads of ham and chicken fillings but with great gap in between. I wish they could fill the gap with mashed potato and achieve a creamier texture.
