I am a big pasta lover! There are so many different kinds of pasta with different sauces and different ways of making them. I do not connect to many restaurants in Hong Kong as they do not make al denta pasta. I recently went to the Pasta Place under invitation and fell in love with this cute cafe.
The Pasta Place is a new homestyle cafe at Sheung Wan. With a sharp yellow chop logo sign board, you can spot it easily on Hillier street.
The Pasta Place has an extremely homey and cute ambiance with creamy rose wall papers, dangling lights and antique clock with an open kitchen/ bar. Each table is given a vase of fresh red rose, how lovely :)
We met the owner Andrea's assistant manager/ mom Charlotte tonight. She is a very lovely and amiable lady. The British family has lived in Hong Kong for over 20 years. They fell in love with a restaurant in New York and decided to implement a part of the furnishing into their restaurant. That explained the New York vibe here.
The menu is pretty cool too with a black and white poster at the back featuring a lady having pasta. There are quite a lot of items on the menu from starters, sandwiches, pasta and main courses. Dessert menu is on a separate menu on the desk.
To start off the dinner, I had a glass of Lemonade. This lemonade tasted like the concentrate you can get from Waitrose. Although not freshly squeeze, this lemonade made me miss my student years in UK.
Don't you think this eggplant parmigiana looked like an eel sush!? The roll was savoury and quite cheesy. This eggplant parmigiana is a bit too heavy to start off the meal though.
Tagliatelle is one of my favourite pasta as it is usually paired with robust flavoured sauce. This al dente tagliatelle was lovely with a flavourful beef sauce with tender minced beef! I also loved the cute poka dot plate that holds the tagliatelle! We love the sauce so much, we literally cleaned the plate with a bread.
The penne was an exquisite dish too with bursting flavours! The sauce was garlicky and creamy with a refreshing basil note, there was also a mild flow of alcohol aroma. Despite the flavourful sauce, the griddled chicken was not to be missed! This was extremely tender, bouncy and had a strong chicken flavour with it. This was probably one of the best chicken I had this year. The sauce again was so good that we polished the plate with a bread!
The panna cotta tasted more like Chinese stewed milk than panna cotta. It was mildly sweet with a smooth and soft texture.
The gelato cookie sandwich had an adorable look but the vanilla sugar cookies were too sweet for my liking.
I really love The Pasta Place from furnishing, service to food. Everything is designed with love and I feel very comfy dining in this restaurant. Come here to try their pasta, it is definitely one of the best in Hong Kong.
