Price: $$$$
Cravingness: ★★★★☆
Earlier this week mom gave me a buy one 3-course dinner menu and get one free coupon at Cova, Lee Garden I. I checked the menu online and found the 3-course dinner menu is priced at HKD588+10%. "Great Deal!" I thought. I immediately made a booking and dragged Henry to dine with me tonight.
We arrived at 730pm sharp, but the reception lady had trouble finding a table for us. They apologised and escort us to the Cafe for drinks beforehand. To our surprises, the manager in house brought us two glasses of Prosecco to placate us. This free glass however resulted in a 30 minutes wait.... I would rather they sit us in sharply.
Cova is the restaurant that will make you forget where you are. With a Victorian style interior, you feel like you are dining at someone's house in Europe. There is a good sense of spacing between each table and privacy is guaranteed. The lighting is dim but the ambience is more homey than romantic.
Rye bread and sun dried tomato bread slices along with olive oil and vinegar were served the night we went. The sun dried tomato bread slice was so good that we had another slice of it.
Our amuse bouche is a bite size of smoked eel on a bed of polenta, garnished with horseradish leaves, a sprinkle of chives and a drizzle of olive oil. The smoked eel was amazingly smokey and velvety smooth and tender with a delicious grease in it.
I picked the duck breast with foie gras as my appetiser. The foie gras terrine was velvety with bold flavour. The duck breast was savoury but was rather chewy. I also felt disappointed that the beet roots on the side were not sweet.
While feeling slightly disappointed, Henry's appetiser was amazeball! The tempura prawn was amazing done with crispy puffy crust that held all the sweet juices within the hot prawn! The housemade soy sauce was a bit too bland, but the horseradish leaves and creamy guacamole brought up the flavour. Yummmmmmmmm!
My pappardelle dish was decent. The sauce was robust and creamy. The pappardelle was very eggy and chewy but can be cooked slightly harder. The thick pappardelle held the sauce very well which made every bite tasteful.
This flavour bursting linguini dish was very garlicky, sweet from the caramelised garlic, savoury from the crispy bacon and mildly spicy from the spicy red peppers, if you can take spicy, have the red peppers, if not, I advise you not to try. The scallop was decent, tasted sweet and juicy with smokey rim.
I cut through the mille feuille in 1 stroke and the two separated piece were held in shape, proving the mille feuille was nicely done with good crispiness. The mille feuille was filled with sweet mango and silky Chantilly but not buttery enough. The raspberry rest on top of the mille feuille balanced the sweetness from the Chantilly and mango.
The cheese cake was surprisingly yummy. The cheese cake was cheesy with a good body, less heavy than a new york cheesecake. I love it loads and kept indulging in the cheesecake spoon after spoon even it was henry's dessert. Yummmmmmm.
Despite the fact that Cova made us wait 30 minutes for our table, I had quite an enjoyable night at Cova. Pasta were pretty excellent, I would love to come here sometimes but not too often as the 3 courses dinner is quite pricey.
