Bashodo | All about the Ice-cream, but NOT Monaka

There weren't much dessert choices at my dinning place, so I went to Bashodo (芭蕉堂) to have a Ice Monaka. A typical Monaka is a Japanese sweet made of azuki bean jam(Ice-cream in this case) filling sandwiched between two thin crisp wafers made from mochi. There were a wide range of ice-cream flavours available, many are of my likings e.g. sesame, green tea, but in the end I chose Mango.

I originally thought the ice-cream portion should be rather small as it should be served on the Monaka wafers as shown on pictures. Yet the store girl told us the Monaka wafers were sold out and asked whether we mind to have our ice-cream on cone. Since it cost only $9 which was of a great bargain considering the venue, we had it on cone.

Unbelievably the portion was HUGE! Despite a large scoop at the top, the ice-cream literally filled down to the bottom. The ice-cream was icing cold, just perfect for the crazy temperature. It had a strong mango taste and was only mildly sweet. The texture was smooth and melted quickly on your palate. The cone on the other hand, are very thin and crispy! Delicious!

Considering the price, I would not expect this quality and quantity! It is a must try! If you really love the ice-cream, try to ask them for a cone lol!
