Searching a spot in Openrice.com with relaxing atmosphere for friends chitchatting and catching up, I came across Café OWL and decided to pay a visit there. Pouring rain on this Saturday afternoon, My friends and I met at Tsim Sha Tsui MTR Exit B, and thanks for the Café’s location, we weren’t soaking wet as the Café was just 5 minutes walked from the MTR Exit.
Knowing little about the café, my friend and I were amazed and impressed by the interior furnishing of the Café once the elevator door slid wide. We didn’t expect any nice café in this building not to mention an up scale one. We were brought to a window seating. Locating on 5/F floor, a full overview of the hustle pedestrian street was at sight, pretty awesome. The interior furnishing looked classy and there were graffiti everywhere around the café. Ladies would probably use the washroom longer than usual, as the 4 walls were nicely drawn with remarkable graffiti, each expressing its own thoughts.
Upon ordering, I originally wanted to order risotto after seeing some nice pictures online. Very disappointingly the food on the lunch sets menu were limited and unappealing, I checked for the risotto’s price on the normal menu, and it was at around triple of the price the lunch sets offered. So I gave in for the Spaghetti with Frankfurter on Red Sauce.
1) Lobster Soup
4) Fettucini With Mussel On Creamy White Sauce
6) Cream Soda with Fresh Milk

1) Lobster Soup
Having a full impression mark of the restaurant, I looked highly on its food. The lobster soup was the first dish of the day and was served on a nicely shaped porcelain bowl. I fished around the soup and disappointed to found no lobster or any soup ingredients inside the bowl. Yet the soup did give a strong lobster taste. The soup was thin without a creamy and thick texture a typical lobster soup would provide. The soup was just the genesis of a dissatisfying lunch.
2) Set Salad Sided With Thousand Island Sauce
The salad looked very appetizing and all the ingredients on dish looked fresh. There were lots of ingredients in the salad, fresh green lettuce, baby tomatoes, bits of corn and pineapple etc. The baby tomatoes were exceptionally huge and juicy. The salad was generally nice but could be better if the thousand island dressing was served at side but not directly on top of the salad.
3) Spaghetti with Frankfurter & Apparatus on Tomato Sauce
I had a difficult time in deciding between this dish and the fettuccini. I love red sauce but the frankfurter down-graded the spaghetti; I love Fettucini and Mussel but I dislike white sauce. In the end, I chose the spaghetti as my friend next to me chose Fettucini, So I could have some of hers anyway.
Once again the spaghetti was meticulously served on a mod porcelain plate, and guess what, it was topped with my favourite Apparatus. The apparatus was fresh and dainty. The spaghetti was cooked nicely, giving the right softness. The tomato sauce however, had no taste and made the dish flavourless. It was the nicely sliced frankfurters which were giving some taste to the spaghetti. My friend added in a insane amount of pepper but the dish still tasted dead, while I added in a considerably amount of Tabasco and the dish finally gave some kind of taste. The portion was not big either, just enough for girls and definitely not a main course for guys.
4) Fettucini With Mussel On Creamy White Sauce
Just as my friend was adding the pepper diligently, my two other friends having the fettuccini were whining about their absolutely flavourless dish. I immediately took a few fork portion of the fettuccini and it did taste absolutely flavourless. All of a sudden, my spaghetti under the comparison, suddenly gave a bit of tomato flavour lol. The white sauce no doubt were creamy but really had no taste at all. The mussels were at pathetic size, chopped into million bits. It wasn’t that fresh either, so should be coming from canned food. Luckily OWL provided Parmesan Cheese on each desk and they were added in to give some flavours.
5) Chocolate
My cup of hot chocolate was prepared so nicely that I nearly wasn’t cruel enough to taste it. The chocolate was smooth and silky, having a touch of milk along with the chocolate taste. Thumb up for the chocolate!
6) Cream Soda with Fresh Milk
I never had this drink before, and it looked very appealing with the vanilla ice-cream on top of the drink. The taste was mildly sweet and the combing taste was actually surprisingly good. Another thumb up for this drink.
7) Warm Chocolate Pudding 心太軟
After lunch, the gentleman wasn't really satisfying so we started ordering desserts. The brown chocolate pudding sided with a cope of vanilla ice-cream looked very appealing on the plate. I could not withhold my curiosity and made a cut on the cake quickly after snapping its untouched outlook, the inside melting chocolate paste started flowing out immediately. Both the chocolate cake and the chocolate paste was mildly sweet and having it along with a spoon of ice-cream was heavenly pleasant to the palate. All of us had agreed this was the only nice food served throughout the day.
8) Baked Garlic Bread
The baked garlic bread came to the table as three distinct garlic bread stick and had dissatisfied my two friends who insisted garlic bread had to be prepared as slices. Having it as bread sticks were alright for me and I found the stick pretty tasty. It was served extremely hot out from the oven and had a strong garlic and butter taste.
9) Chicken Wings With Honey Sauce
The chicken wings was an average dish, nothing really special about it. The wings were tender and soft. It was nicely seasoned to give a strong taste of honey.
What's good about Café OWL were that they provided excellent services and a nice, relaxing atmosphere to dine in. Although the stated working hours was from 12:00-15:00, 18:00-00:00, we literally spent four hours in the café from 13:00-17:00. There were customers coming in and out during their official break time too. To be honest the food quality Café OWL offers was pretty dreadful, it was its extraordinary interior furnishings which had saved the cafe. Dinning in the Café could be considered as eating art. In additions, the drinks were generally good and the price was very affordable at lunch. Thus I would highly recommended this place for any chill out gathering.
